COMMON MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, international relations, or communications from an academic institution; plus, appropriate work experience in an international organization.
- Language: Professional National: proficiency in Swahili and English (level C) Language: the capacity for reading, writing, speaking, and translating.
- Experience: The minimal prerequisite is one year of postgraduate professional experience. It is preferred to have more years of relevant professional work experience in sectors connected to communications.
INTERNATIONAL GROUNDWORK:
WFP Tanzania is currently accepting applications for a Communications Officer. Reporting to the Head of the Communications, Marketing, and Advocacy/Partnerships Unit, the role is headquartered at the Country Office in Dar es Salaam. The Unit is essential to the WFP’s efforts to promote its activities both inside and outside in line with the aims and objectives of the organization’s Country Strategic Plan (2022–27).
The purpose of the job:
To carry out a variety of communications tasks, such as media relations, social media management, content production, and branding, in order to put the communications strategy into practice.
Important attributes (not exhaustive):
1. Participate in the execution of project communication work plans and country communications strategies aimed at preserving and enhancing WFP’s reputation and visibility. Support fund-raising initiatives that are consistent with WFP’s corporate strategies as a whole.
2. Create excellent information products, such as fact sheets, briefings, and newsletters, for print and digital media that highlight and advertise WFP’s activities to specific audiences.
3. Gather audiovisual materials (pictures and videos) and compose human interest pieces to highlight WFP’s activities to audiences inside and outside the organization (WFP national, regional, and international offices).
4. Offer thorough, specialized assistance, coordination, and suggestions to guarantee the productive production of audio, video, and picture goods.
5. Create content for various web channels, such as text, images, videos, and audio, that is tailored to the visibility of donors.
6. Compose speeches, news releases, and important messages. See them through the entire cycle, from draft to completion.
7. Work with external stakeholders (donors, the government, development partners) to plan visibility events, such as handover ceremonies and agreement signings.
8. Work together with national and international media outlets in print, television, radio, online, and digital media to maximize reach and oversee a network of journalists and media experts who can improve WFP’s reputation and brand.
9. Create interesting content for social media and oversee the WFP Twitter account.
10. Keep an eye on and analyze social and conventional media to help with the creation and/or assessment of communication plans and initiatives.
11. Assist in the development of WFP staff members’ communication skills in all domains and at all levels of competence. This will help to guarantee that all actions live up to the intended standards of impact, consistency, and quality.
12. Encourage the execution of corporate branding and marking strategies to guarantee uniformity in the way the WFP’s visual identity is portrayed (in publications, signages, etc.).
13. Adhere to normal disaster preparedness procedures to help WFP react swiftly to a crisis and provide food and other resources to impacted regions.

Knowledge and abilities:
- Strong English writing abilities with a track record of producing communications material, such as social media posts, human interest articles, and press releases.
- The capacity to plan events for visibility.

- The capacity to communicate in Kiswahili (read, write, speak, translate).
- Proficiency in media, social media, campaigns, content creation, and other communication tactics.
