The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) is one of Tanzania’s top learning institutes. Founded in 1957, it is fully certified by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) to provide technical and engineering programs leading to the awards of Ordinary Diploma (OD) in engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), and Master of Engineering (MEng).

Historically, DIT was formed in 1997 by the Act of Parliament “the DIT Act No.6 of 1997” to replace the Dar es Salaam Technical College, which had a long history of technical instruction in Tanzania. This history extends back to 1957, when its predecessor, the Dar es Salaam Technical Institute, was created with the primary goal of offering vocational instruction throughout the country.

The Institute then expanded its scope to include technical secondary school courses as well as training for Technical Assistants before being upgraded in 1962 to become Dar es Salaam Technical College (DTC), the country’s first formal technical training institution.[1] Archived on November 17, 2020 at the Wayback Machine.
