2 Job Vacancies at Manyara Ranch Management Trust (MRMT)
Background:
Established in 2018, the Manyara Ranch Management Trust (MRMT) is registered under the Tanzania Trustees Incorporation Act, Cap 318 R.E 2002. The Trust was established by the Monduli District Council with the goal of efficiently managing Manyara Ranch Conservancy as a multipurpose wildlife and livestock property that promotes wildlife conservation and aids the neighboring towns of Oltukai and Esilalei. Situated in the center of the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem in northern Tanzania, the 17,692-hectare Manyara Ranch Conservancy is home to several wildlife species.
The Trust is seeking highly skilled and qualified candidates for the following open roles in order to meet MRMT objectives:
Job Title: Conservancy Manager
Summary of Position:
Working closely with the Monduli District Council and other development partners, and answering to the Manyara Ranch Conservancy Board. The ranch conservancy will receive operational and strategic support from the conservancy manager. He or she will be in charge of overseeing the conservancy and growing it into a self-sufficient model that combines livestock and wildlife and enhances the standard of living in the neighborhood. His/her center of operations will be Manyara Ranch in Monduli, Arusha.
Tasks and Accountabilities:
- Transforming Manyara Ranch into an independently run establishment that combines tourism, livestock, and wildlife conservation.
- Advantages for the local communities.
- Preservation of the land’s and the landscape’s overall ecological integrity.
- Participate in both the regional and national economies.
- Putting together the annual work plans and budgets for the board’s approval.
- Running the ranch and supervising all conservancy operations, including tourism, cattle projects, wildlife conservation, and other community development initiatives.
- Maintaining good conservation, long-term self-sustainability, and community benefits through community relations management.
- Overseeing, educating, and coaching conservancy employees as well as evaluating their work to guarantee maximum output and motivation.
- Reduce conservancy costs as much as possible while increasing revenue to guarantee the ranch’s long-term viability, robust conservation, and community benefits.
- At the highest level, supervise, keep an eye on, and preserve ranch assets.
- Supervise the administration of all ranch expenditures, income, and budgets; guarantee precise budgeting, lucid record-keeping, and adherence to donor and MRMT financial protocols.
- Preparing reports and project proposals for financial donors, both private and public.
- To increase the profitability and management of livestock and tourism, develop and implement policies, sales, and marketing.
- Encourage and fortify the customary grazing methods of the community to foster resilience.
- Speak for the Conservancy in different forums.
- Must report to, answer to, and be responsible for the Board on all issues pertaining to management and carrying out the Board’s decisions and directions.
Academic Background and Experiences:
- A master’s degree from an accredited university in project management, business administration, natural resources management, or any comparable discipline.
- Five years minimum of experience overseeing several projects or a conservancy.
- Extensive knowledge of modern methods for managing natural resources, raising animals, and conservation.
- A thorough awareness of community involvement procedures and pastoralist customary livestock methods.
- Expertise in creating and overseeing donor initiatives.
Position Title: Finance and Administration Officer
Summary of Position:
The main person in charge of making sure that the Manyara Ranch Conservancy’s resources are efficiently managed at the operational level is the Finance & Administration Officer (FAO). In addition to helping the Manyara Ranch Team with financial reporting and budgeting, s/he will facilitate the smooth execution of day-to-day Ranch Conservancy operations. Along with programmatic and operational reporting on revenues and donor funding, S/He will offer the financial insights. The Conservancy Manager will get reports from S/He. He or she will be located in Monduli, Arusha, at the Makuyuni/Manyara Ranch, and will travel as required.
Job Responsibilities:
Accounting and financial management.
- Ensuring that the group is aware of and follows donor financial and administrative policies and procedures as well as MRMT policies.
- Ensuring that all financial reports are submitted on time for approval and review.
- Offers financial analyses and suggestions for departments and programs regarding rates of spending, overspending and underspending, and spending patterns.
- Briefs the head of departments on the status of the budget each month.
- Payroll for Manyara Ranch Conservancy is processed, and required transfers are made.
- Make sure that staff advancements are given on schedule and closed by employees when they return from their travel obligations.
- Examine expenditure reports closely in relation to travel to make sure that the costs are reasonable and in accordance with donor travel regulations and MRMT.
- Make sure that all staff administrative tasks, such as creating substitute approvers and timesheets, are finished before departing to avoid interfering with conservation procedures like the monthly accounting close.
- Aids in and supports audits.
Creation and Administration of Budgets.
- Participates in the creation of funding proposal notes, narratives, and budgets for projects and conservancies; develops proposals for large grants.
- Verifies that the proposed budget complies with the regulations on donor reporting.
- Ensures that program activity-based budgets and authorized grant budgets are in line by working with the head of departments.
- Notifies program team of any major budget adjustments that need donor approval and suggests appropriate correspondence.
Handling of Grants and Contracts.
- Assist the Head of Departments and the Conservancy Manager in ensuring that the donor receives accurate and timely financial reports.
- Examines proposed contracts, offers guidance on financial compliance, and assists in donor negotiations as needed.
- Verifies that the Conservancy staff understands the terms of the funding contract.
- Keeps a record of all grant contracts and modifications for each grant that is allocated.
- Helping with program evaluation in areas pertaining to money.
Management of Administration.
- Makes ensuring that office assets are maintained up to date and that records and valuables are safe and secure.
- Guarantees that the fleet of vehicles is properly maintained, controlled, and operational.
- Help with more expensive purchases made from nearby vendors.
- Assist in organizing staff training and performance reviews.
- Control the movements and travel of the employees both inside and outside the ranch.
- Advising the manager of the conservancy on proposed legislation changes.
- Perform any additional official tasks that the conservancy manager assigns you if needed.
Experiences and Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a similar field.
- A complete accounting degree, such as an ACCA, CPA, or similar, will be advantageous.
- Five years of experience working in business or non-profit organizations using accounting and financial systems.
- Proficiency with computers, particularly with Microsoft Word and Excel and accounting databases.
- It is ideal to have prior experience with Serenic Navigator or Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
- Acquaintance with governmental regulations, such as those pertaining to taxes, VAT/duty-free requirements, etc.
