Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) was constituted as a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal, in compliance with Section 8 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2009 (Cap 283), by a Government Notice No. 135 released on 9th May 2014. It became operational on the 1st July of 2016 with core responsibilities of biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of wildlife resources outside National Parks and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This involves overseeing 136,287.06 km, which is made up of Ramsar sites, open regions, game-controlled areas, and game reserves. Moreover, TAWA is in charge of managing Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and captive wildlife, including sanctuaries, farms, zoos, ranches, and orphanage facilities.
Enhance the management and administration of Game Reserves and Game Controlled Areas is one of TAWA’s assigned tasks. Gather money from different sources to enhance wildlife management. Realize maximal wildlife economic potential. Reduce the number of wildlife using more effective and efficient means. Enhance the information, financial, physical, and human resources needed for the management of natural resources and wildlife. To make the workforce more productive and efficient, provide field workers with reasonable pay, comfortable housing quarters, and perks.
