The applications for the African Union Internship Program 2025 are now open. The African Union Internship Program allows interns to supplement their studies while also developing their professional skills and experience. The AU internship program is a full-time commitment that allows qualified persons from a variety of academic backgrounds to obtain professional experience at the AU.

This program’s goal is to introduce participants to the workings of the AU early in their professional careers while also strengthening their personal and professional abilities. It allows learners to obtain practical experience in a variety of relevant sectors while studying in an intercultural setting.

 

The AU will also get support from individuals who have adequate expertise and abilities in key areas, serving as a possible training ground for future African leaders.

 

 

The focus areas:

In general, interns help provide administrative and technical support for the effective implementation of African Union programmes, projects, and activities in the following Departments/Directorates:

  • Cabinet of the Chairperson.
  • Cabinet of the Deputy Chairperson.
  • Office of the Director-General.
  • Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (ARBE).
  • Economic Development, Trade, Industry, and Mining (ETIM).
  • Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (ESTI).
  • Infrastructure and Energy (IE).
  • Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS).
  • Health, Humanitarian, and Social Development (HHS).
  • Human resource management (HRM).
  • Operations Support Services.
  • Management Information System Division.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
  • Conference Management and Publication (CMP).
  • Office of Safety and Security Services, Citizens and Diaspora (CIDO).
  • Medical and health services.
  • Financial Control Unit.
  • Office for Strategic Planning and Delivery.
  • Office of Internal Oversight (OIO).
  • Quality Assurance and Control.
  • Ethics, Integrity, and Standards.
  • Office of the Commission’s Secretary.

The Eligibility:

  • Be currently enrolled in at least the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program OR.
  • He/She must have a Bachelor’s degree or advanced/postgraduate (Master’s) qualification in a comparable academic subject.
  • Be African Union Member State nationals.
  • Be a full-time students in their last year of a bachelor’s or graduate degree.
  • Be a fluent in one of the African Union’s working languages (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
  • Be no more than thirty-two (32) years old at the time of selection.
  • Maintain the greatest level of moral conduct and integrity.
  • Have not been convicted of any serious criminal offense, excluding minor traffic violations.
  • The prior work experience is not necessary for internship roles.

 

 

 

The required skills:

  • A proficient computer abilities (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • A proficiency with email and online applications.
  • The good interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • The proficiency in one of the AU’s working languages (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, or Kiswahili) and fluency in other AU languages is advantageous.
