The Introduction:
Chuo Kikuu cha Sokoine Cha Kilimo (SUA) is collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) to administer the “Jenga Kesho Iliyo Bora” program, which aims to engage youngsters in agriculture across the country. Under the BBT-Avocado initiative, SUA and the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA) have devised a plan to hire fifty (50) agricultural graduates for twelve (12) months to provide extension services for a special program to promote avocado farming in the country. This scheme will be conducted during the 2025/2026 crop season to prepare for raw avocado production. The initiative will take undertaken in Rugwe District of Mbeya Region.
Furthermore, the implementation of this special extension services program through young agricultural graduates (BBT Agricultural Extension Entrepreneurship Scheme – BBT AEES) requires fifty (50) qualified agricultural graduates to provide extension services for avocado farming under temporary employment contracts as follows:
Position Title: Agricultural Officer (5 Positions)
The key responsibilities:
Give professional assistance to farmers and other stakeholders in the avocado value chain by doing the following:
- To educate farmers on optimum agricultural techniques for avocados, including land preparation, farm management, harvesting, value addition, storage, and market sales.
- To educate and monitor the quality of raw avocados from field to warehouse.
- To monitor and guarantee that producers use the finest avocado cultivation practices.
- Create and submit weekly progress reports on avocado cultivation in your allocated job area.
- To prepare and submit realistic input requirements for farmers, including seeds and seedlings.
- To oversee and guarantee that supplied inputs in the given area reach growers and are used on avocado plantations.
- To conduct small-scale field research and trials to evaluate improved seed varieties, fertilizers, and new technologies.
- To update the digital database of avocado producers and other stakeholders, including input service providers, in the designated area.
- To oversee the distribution of government-subsidized avocado farming inputs to farmers in the allocated work region.
- To provide farmers with instruction on optimal avocado cultivation methods, such as the proper and safe use of pesticides.
- To oversee avocado quality verification at the Primary Cooperative Society level (AMCOS).
- Estimate raw avocado production depending on the number of avocado plants capable of producing during the season (crop projection).
- To identify agriculture sector stakeholders in the designated work region and connect them with farmers who require their services.
- To ensure that each farmer has a notebook to document the services provided by all stakeholders, including agricultural extension officers.
- Work with local leaders to choose a lead farmer.
- To provide information on additional crops grown by farmers in the village/area under supervision.
- Assess avocado productivity in the designated area at the conclusion of each season and submit a report.
- To supervise assistant agricultural extension officers in your designated area.
- Carry out/ perform any additional duties specified by your supervisor.
Job Required Qualifications:
A Tanzanian degree-level agricultural graduate with the following qualifications:
- Be trustworthy, ethical, dedicated, and have strong interpersonal skills.
Be aged between 18 and 40. - Have a degree in Agricultural Science (General), Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crops.
- The production and management from a government-accredited institution.
- Not now employed or previously terminated from public service.
- Not been imprisoned for any criminal offense.
- Be willing to work in different rural locations.
- Be able to operate efficiently without supervision.
- Be prepared to work on a temporary contract and get the monthly allowances indicated in the contract.
- To prepare to sign a performance-based contract for the specific season.
- The experience in avocado cultivation is advantageous.

Position Title: Assistant Agricultural Officer (45 Positions)
