Geita Gold Mine Limited (GGML)
The Geita Gold Mine Limited (GGML) is Tanzania’s largest gold producer, with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer based in South Africa that operates in over 10 countries across four continents. The mine is located in Northwestern Tanzania’s Lake Victoria Gold Fields, approximately 85 kilometers from Mwanza City and 20 kilometers southeast of Lake Victoria’s nearest point. The company’s headquarters are in Geita, barely 5 kilometers west of the fast-growing town, and there is a support office in Dar es Salaam.
This mine is committed to the long-term development of the communities surrounding it, as evidenced by its active collaboration with the government to improve social services such as education, health, water, and roads, as well as other economic activities in the area. Following the modification of the Mining Act in 2017, the mine invested more than TZS 30 billion on community projects in collaboration with Geita municipal government.
