The Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH). Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) is a tertiary specialized and super specialist hospital in Tanzania structured into nine directorates with a bed capacity of 2,178, of which 1,570 beds are at the Main Upanga Hospital and 608 beds at the Mloganzila facility, which is 23 kilometers away from the main hospital. Every day, the hospital sees between 2,000 and 3,000 outpatients and 1,500 to 2,000 inpatients.

Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) dates back to the 1910s and 1920s, when it was known as Sewahaji Hospital. In 1956, the name was changed to Princess Margareth Hospital. Muhimbili Hospital was titled shortly after independence in 1961 until 1976, when it was renamed Muhimbili Medical Centre. Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) was established by the MNH ACT of Parliament No. 5 of 2000, which divided the then-Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC) into Muhimbili National Hospital and Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS), which is now Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). Separation occurred in November 2004.
