About us:
According to NGO Act No. 24 of 2002, Uwezo Tanzania is a recognized independent NGO with registration number 00NGO/R/09001. In Swahili, uwezo signifies “capability.”
Uwezo’s primary mission has been to gather data and curate evidence on real reading and numeracy proficiency levels among children aged 4 to 16 in a way that informs the public, sparks national debate, and promotes bottom-up pressure for policy change. Uwezo has also used assessment evidence to experiment and implement creative treatments that show what works to improve learning outcomes, particularly literacy and numeracy skills. Among the intervention programs, Uwezo’s My Village initiative helps youngsters who are falling behind in basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Where exactly are we?
- We are located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at 85k Suites, Kinondoni Road.
Qualifications included in the job description:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance, or any comparable discipline.
- Six months of minimum experience in any organization carrying out accounting-related tasks.
- Familiarity with computer applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with Xero accounting software will be beneficial.
- Adaptability to a changing environment, self-assurance, and inventiveness.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in Swahili and English.
Overall Assignment/ General task:
As directed by the Executive Director and the relevant officer, assist the Uwezo Tanzania financial unit while taking the initiative to pursue professional growth through learning.
The Specific tasks:
- Assist with documenting revenues and payments in Xero accounting software.
- Provide assistance with budget preparation and evaluation to inform critical organizational decisions.
- Assist in the preparation of various financial reports, such as bank reconciliations, donor reports, and cash flow statements.
- Support workers imprest management.
- Help manage the organization’s assets.
- Provide assistance before and during the audit of the organization’s financial records.
- Provide assistance in communicating with Uwezo stakeholders, such as suppliers and partners.
- Provide assistance in ensuring compliance with statutory agencies such as TRA,NSSF, and WCF by filling out and submitting appropriate taxes and payments.
- Support the organization’s fundraising efforts.
- Perform any other related responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor.
