The LVIA is seeking an accountant for the EU-funded project titled “Kijani Pemba – Strengthening Urban Eco-Resilience in Chake Chake and Mkoani.

 

The starting date: March 2025, 12-month contract, renewable.

The salary ranges from 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 Tzs, depending on the candidate’s experience and level of schooling.

 

 

About us/ Who We Are:

The Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian NGO that works in eleven African countries, including Tanzania. Our headquarters are in Cuneo, Italy, and our offices in Tanzania are in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa). LVIA has been working in Tanzania for over 30 years to assist community development, particularly in agriculture, health, and improving access to safe water and hygiene.

 

The Project:

The LVIA is looking for an accountant to work on the EU-funded project “Kijani Pemba – Strengthening Urban Eco-Resilience in Chake Chake and Mkoani“.

 

The project’s specific goal is to promote inclusive and sustainable growth in the Chake Chake and Mkoani areas of South Pemba by improving climate resilience and access to basic services, socioeconomic opportunities, and decision-making, particularly for women and youth in urban poor communities.

This goal (objective) can be accomplished with the following predicted outcomes:

  • To improve communication between local governments, communities, and civil society organizations to promote participative and coherent territorial planning.
  • Increased connectivity, coverage, and access to safe water and sanitation in public and social facilities, with a special emphasis on girls’ and women’s access to services.
  • Environmentally responsible trash management services and green small local enterprises encourage socioeconomic inclusion and economic empowerment for young people, girls, and women.

 

 

 

The Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Country Representative, the Accountant will be in charge of the following duties:

 

 

TASKS:

  • Be responsible for the project’s financial administration and reporting, working with the Project Coordinator and reporting to the Country Administrator in Dodoma and Italy.
  • Make follow up on protocols (procedures) and guidelines to ensure that the organization’s financial records and transactions are appropriately maintained.
  • Ensure that taxes and insurance are paid on schedule, and maintain track of employees’ yearly leave.
  • To manage the monthly payroll for LVIA employees.
  • To collect and analyzes accounting documents, prepares bank transfers, ordinary and tax payments, and oversees tenders, procurements, and purchases on-site.
  • Day-to-day accounting activities include registrations, cheques, bank transfers, and reconciliation.
  • To update the LVIA accounting software and verifying bank and cash balances at the end of each month.
  • To check accountancy paperwork from partner organizations to ensure their eligibility.
  • To prepare the required paperwork for external audits.

 

 

SKILLS:

  • Capable of paying close attention to detail, prioritizing tasks, and meeting several deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, report writing, and computer abilities.
  • Be well-organized and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • The problem-solving abilities.
  • Be sensitive to gender equality concerns.

 

 

The Requirements.

ESSENTIAL:

At least a bachelor’s degree, ideally in accounting, finance, or comparable, and a CPA certification;

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience as an accountant, finance officer, or an equivalent role, including supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience with international NGOs and donor-funded projects.
  • A proven expertise generating budgets, collecting and evaluating data, and creating financial reports.
  • Knowledge (experience) with EU project implementation and knowledge of PRAG 2021.
  • The knowledge of the local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • A proficiency in English and demonstrated capacity to create official reports and papers in both English and Kiswahili.
  • A computer literature and advanced Excel.

 

The Employee is asked to maintain a flexible attitude and a high level of adaptation to possible modifications and/or integration into the foreseen duties based on local needs, and to make an effort to integrate his/her work into the larger context of LVIA’s presence in Tanzania in order to facilitate consistency and continuity among current and prospective projects.

 

 

PREFERRED:

  • The relevant courses and credentials.
  • The knowledge of different accounting tools (NPS, etc.).
  • A valid motorcycle riding permit.
