Job Description:
The Aga Khan University (AKU) welcomes applicants for an Accountant post in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The chosen candidate will oversee treasury operations, such as bank accounts, M-Pesa transactions, and statutory payments (PAYEE, WHT, VAT). Preparing General Vouchers, Accounts Payable Vouchers, and monthly schedules, doing bank reconciliations, operating pay cycles on the ERP system, and administering the finance record room are among the primary responsibilities.
The Position Responsibilities:
- To prepare general vouchers and accounts. Payable for cash, M-Pesa, and bank transfers.
- Create monthly schedules for donations, endowments, and grant funds.
- To manage treasury functions, such as local and foreign currency bank accounts.
- Perform bank reconciliations and prepare cheques.
- To run pay cycles through the ERP system and generate Accounts Payable vouchers.
- To issue payment receipts and keep the finance department’s physical records updated.
- Make sure that all mandatory payments (PAYEE, WHT, VAT) are made to the Tanzania Revenue Authority on time.
- Share Treasury-related information with supervisors and external auditors.
- To review operational bank and M-Pesa accounts on a regular basis.
- Create weekly cash flow reports and keep track of unpresented checks.
- Consolidate General Ledger bank accounts with Bank Statements and M-Pesa accounts.
- To maintain up-to-date financial records before yearly external audits, and supply requested records during audits.
- To assist with any duties as assigned by the supervisor.
The Professional Qualifications and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- A qualified Certified Public Accountant in Tanzania.
- More than three years of professional expertise in treasury and general accounting.
- Solid understanding of accounting entries, adjustments, and banking processes.
- A proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and ERP Financial Systems.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
- The experience managing departmental petty cash funds.
