About Vi Agroforestry:

The Vi Agroforestry is a Swedish development initiative that works to combat poverty and climate change. The organization helps smallholder farmer households escape poverty by promoting sustainable agricultural land management (SALM) based on agroforestry practices. What began in 1983 as a tree planting program has grown into an expert organisation that implements development projects through local partnerships with farmer organisations.

The goal is to eliminate poverty, hunger, deforestation, and detrimental gendered norms while also contributing to enhanced climate change mitigation, resilience, and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable food systems. Current programs and programmes in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania focus on smallholder farming households, particularly women, youth, and children. The headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, focuses on fundraising, advocacy, and program monitoring and evaluation. The regional office in Nairobi, Kenya, oversees operations, advocacy, and expertise. Country offices coordinate projects and partnerships in each country.

 

 

The Purpose of the Position:

The accountant will cover the post for five months. The accountant oversees all accounting procedures and systems in the Country office. He or she is responsible for maintaining accurate records, doing monthly financial reconciliations, assisting with procurement requests, and managing office administration.

The General Responsibilities:

  • Encourage teamwork and provide assistance as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks at the national office/regional office or department level as directed by the manager.
  • To keep your boss updated on opportunities and difficulties, as well as the status of your assignments. If you are having difficulty achieving your deadlines, make sure to notify your management ahead of time.
  • Help establish and implement the office’s risk management plans, work plans, and budgets.

 

 

The key responsibilities:

  • Preparation of payment vouchers.
  • Document filing and record-keeping.
  • Consolidating accounts and keeping ledgers.
  • Office administration: vouchers, asset management.
  • Office expense tracking (utilities, rent, and supplies).
  • Handling procurement requests and purchases.
  • Vendor payments and contracts.
  • Monitoring end-of-month reconciliations.

 

 

The Required Qualifications:

  • A University degree in a relevant field.

 

 

The Other professional qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and experience.
  • Excellent understanding of financial systems and all Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledgeable about grant management and compliance concerns.

 

The Work Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in the NGO sector.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in accounting and administration.

 

Languages:

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
