Job Title: Assistant Accountant

The LVIA is an Italian NGO that has been active in Tanzania for over 30 years. With its headquarters in the Kongwa district of the Dodoma region, LVIA carries out activities in the Kongwa, Chamwino, Bahi, and Chake-Chake areas of Pemba Island. LVIA is searching for the following for the implementation of its project, “KIJANI PEMBA: Strengthening Urban Eco-resilience in Chake-Chake and Mkoani: EuropeAid/176583/DD/ACT/TZ NDICI_AFRICA/2023/447-205,”
Post Title: Assistant Accountant.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Accountant will work in the accounting department to help management implement financial policies and practices. Assistant Accountants will be in charge of finance and administrative assistance, including day-to-day financial management functions and general office operations and procedures.
Assist the Project Accountant with various tasks such as data review, document filing, data capture, filing system maintenance, and financial voucher scanning.
Assistant Accountant will receive on-the-job training by being allocated to work on low-value, low-risk finance situations, during which he or she will be guided on LVIA financial policies and procedures, as well as best practices.
Job Duration: The contract is for one year, with three months of probation. High likelihood of renewal, based on funding availability and candidate performance.
Location of duty: Chake-Chake District, Pemba Island (LVIA Office).
The proposed commencement date is June 2025.
Remuneration/ Salary:
- Based on the selected candidate’s experience and educational level.
About You: You must be a resident of Pemba Island; you enjoy spreadsheets but can also confidently attend meetings; you pay close attention to detail; and you can prioritize and fulfill various deadlines. You are proficient in English, responsible, and have strong organizational and management skills.
Job Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a similar field.
- To enter financial data accurately and efficiently into accounting software (excel file).
- Knowledge/ understanding of local tax rules, statutes, and regulations.
The Functions:
- The financial documents are scanned on a monthly basis.
- To assist with bank reconciliation on a regular basis.
- To keep organized and up-to-date financial records, both physical and electronic.
- To assist in providing needed documents during Project Audit Sessions.
- Examine and check that all payments are fully supported, including EFD receipts attached for paid invoices.
- To perform any other related duties assigned by the Senior Accountant or Project Manager.
