Summary of Job:

  • The Assistant Geologist is responsible for assisting mine geologists and engineers with geological surveys, exploratory activities, and data analysis.
  • The employment include aiding with fieldwork, collecting samples, performing laboratory tests, and managing geological databases.
  • An Assistant Geologist is a key member of the team in charge of locating potential mining sites, assessing mineral resources, and guaranteeing the accuracy of geological data utilized in mining operations.

 

The Key Responsibilities:

a. Fieldwork Support (Assistance).

  • Assist mining geologists with geological surveys and field mapping to locate possible mineral resources.
  • Collect rock, soil, and core samples from defined areas with proper collection methodologies.

b. Preparation of Sample and analysis.

  • Prepare samples for laboratory analysis with correct labeling and documentation of origin.
  • Assist with fundamental geological analyses, including mineral identification, grain size analysis, and density measurements.

 

c. The Data Entry and Documentation.

  • Maintain accurate and orderly records of geological data, including samples, surveys, and analysis results.
  • Assist in preparing geological reports, maps, and diagrams with supervision from mine geologists.

d. Mapping of Geological.

  • Assist in developing geological maps and cross-sections using field observations and sample analysis.
  • Work with mine geologists to discover and document geological formations, mineralization, and structural characteristics.

 

e. Maintenance of equipment.

  • Maintain geological equipment, tools, and instruments to keep them in good working order.
  • Assist with calibration and proper use of geophysical and surveying equipment.

 

f. Database management and GIS.

  • Assist with GIS mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Contribute to the management and maintenance of geological databases, assuring their integrity and accessibility.

g. Reporting.

  • Create basic technical papers and presentations describing geological discoveries and exploration efforts.
  • Help to create visuals and illustrations for reports and presentations.

 

h. Work together as a team.

  • Work efficiently with other geologists, engineers, and field personnel to incorporate geological data into exploration and mining plans.
  • Communicate findings and updates clearly to the geology team and other stakeholders.

i. Health and safety.

  • Follow safety measures and recommendations for fieldwork and lab activities.
  • Identify and report any safety concerns, and attend safety meetings and training sessions.

 

j. Continuous learning.

  • Stay current with geological advancements, sample methods, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in training programs and workshops to expand your geological knowledge and abilities.
  • Perform any other related duties as given by your direct supervisor from time to time.

 

The Key Qualifications:

a. An Academic and professional qualifications.

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in geology, geological sciences, or a similar discipline.

b. Technical Competencies.

  • Understanding of relevant weight rules and compliance standards.
  • Basic mathematics skills, including the ability to calculate weights accurately.
  • Recording information requires attention to detail and precision.
  • Requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods and operate weighbridge equipment.

 

c. The Behavioral Competencies.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions precisely.
  • Good communication skills and the capacity to operate in a collaborative atmosphere.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new geological techniques and tools.

 

d. Experience.

  • At least one year of experience in geological exploration and mining activities, preferably within the mining industry.
