Concerning the role:
For projects operating in the Arusha, Tanzania office, the Assistant II will be in charge of efficiently and effectively providing administrative, logistical, and operational support to a portfolio of projects, activities, and staff. The position will be held by the incumbent in the Arusha hub, directly reporting to the Scientist II/Country Representative.
Important tasks and obligations:
The following are the primary duties:
- Serve as the main point of contact for handling requests from the bean breeding program’s research personnel, adhering to institutional policies and procedures and facilitating the timely completion of projects in the Arusha, Tanzania office.
- Manage the project’s administrative duties, such as making travel and meeting arrangements, conference logistics, seminar and workshop administration, and logistical support for the project team.
- Give the employees financial and administrative support as well as direction about payments, travel reimbursements, and other needs.
- Provide assistance and direction to research staff with the paperwork and procedures needed to hire interns, visiting research fellows, national and international research staff, and consultants.
- Help the hub’s research team submit requests for the purchase of products and services, follow up with the person in charge of implementation, and communicate with accounting staff on payment arrangements.
- Collaborate with PMOs, administrative staff, and research personnel to explore ways to enhance the efficiency of the research and administrative teams.
- Execute additional pertinent administrative tasks as delegated by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, logistics, project or business management, or a similar field.
- It is preferred to have at least two (2) years of work experience in interdisciplinary programs linked to development studies, agriculture, and the environment.
- English proficiency; more language abilities may be advantageous.
Proficiencies:
- Proficiency with the Office suite from Microsoft. sophisticated Excel.
- A moderate level of spoken and written English proficiency.
- Solid familiarity with common office practices.
- Strong customer focus and service methodology.
- Self-driven and focused on outcomes.
- Team-minded.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities; civility, tact, and the capacity to build and preserve productive professional relationships with individuals from various national and cultural backgrounds.

Conditions of employment:
Position is headquartered in Arusha, Tanzania, and is open to national candidates. The first contract will last for a year, with a three-month probationary term afterward. It can be extended based on performance and resource availability. The Alliance job classification framework policy places this position on a scale from BG01 to BG14, with BG14 being the highest level. This position is graded at BG05 level.
