The Role Purpose:

The Business creation Manager (BD Manager) will be responsible for identifying donor prospects, facilitating and participating in donor, member, government, and partner engagement, leading the creation of fundraising strategies, and coordinating grant proposal preparation. Recognizing that many conversations with donors and members include a review or update on current grants as well as discussions about new opportunities, the BD Manager will be expected to stay up to date on the status of all major institutional and non-institutional grants and be able to speak to the results in key reporting documents. The BD Manager will be based in Dar Es Salaam.

 

The function has an external perspective, but it collaborates closely with the Awards department to communicate with other members of Save the Children International who give program financing.

The desired skills and experience.

The Experience and Qualification:

  • A Master’s degree in the social sciences and development field.
  • The significant experience and a high proposal success rate.
  • A proven track record of delivering successful bids, proposals, and reports to institutional donors, corporations, and others.
  • A proven ability to create high-quality programs.
  • Five to Seven (5-7) years of experience in both emergency and development contexts is preferred, with a focus on at least two of Save the Children’s core sectors: education, protection, child rights governance, health and nutrition, or child poverty.
  • The experience creating proposals for large institutional and commercial funders, including USAID, FCDO, EU, ECHO, Sida, and IKEA.
  • The excellent coordination, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to communicate and negotiate openly and effectively at all levels and gather feedback from a varied workforce.
  • Outstanding writing/editing, reporting, budgeting, and presentation/communication skills.
  • The experience delivering project information to donors and partners.
  • The experience overseeing the development of large-scale or strategic proposals, including the creation of multimillion-dollar project budgets.
  • Demonstrated representation abilities.
  • The cultural awareness and the capacity to work in an international setting with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
  • The strong results-oriented mindset capable of challenging pre-existing beliefs.
  • The experience resolving complicated issues via analysis and defining a clear path ahead.
  • The ability to communicate difficult information in a concise and convincing manner.
  • A fluency in English, both verbal and written is necessary.
