Job Title: Business Development Officer

Background:

The Directorate of Public Services (DPS) is one of three directorates reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Research (DVC-R). It coordinates and manages Continuing Education (CE), Consultancy (University Consultancy Bureau), and Industry Linkage Services. DPS requires a Business Development Officer to support its everyday operations while also coordinating the development and marketing of CE, UCB, and Industrial Liaison activities.
The commercial Development Officer will provide efficient and effective commercial forward-looking services for the Directorate. The Business Development Officer reports to the Director of Public Services on day-to-day business, marketing, and development activities.

 

 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To lead the charge in developing market research strategies to find new prospects.
  • Collaborating with the Director and Heads to develop marketing strategies and explore opportunities.
  • To create and updating proposals to attract and retain new and existing clients.
  • Ensure that the directorate reaches its income targets.
  • To assist the directorate in identifying and assessing the national demand for UDSM’s Continuing Education and consultation services.
  • Support establish strategies to increase market adoption of CE and consultancy services provided by UDSM and its subsidiaries.
  • To review the marketing status report and provide recommendations for appropriate follow-up action.
  • Participate in pitching, sales, and bidding for CE and strategic consulting services within the Directorate.
  • To monitor and advise on branding for CE and consultancy services coordinated by the Directorate.
  • Manage training materials, graphics, and multimedia for CE and consultancy courses, as well as staff training.
  • To perform any other duties and obligations as given by your supervisor at DPS or the DVC-Research office.

 

 

Job Qualifications:

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies with a specialization in Marketing, Business Administration (with a focus on marketing), Entrepreneurship, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Worked for at least four years in a similar field.
  • A first degree in marketing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a reputable university will be beneficial.
  • The experience working with a variety of development and marketing management programs.
  • Have good writing, editing, and vocal communication skills.
  • MS Office proficiency, particularly with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Demonstrates creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and collaborative skills.
  • A professional work ethics include accuracy, efficiency, thoroughness, the capacity to manage various projects, meet deadlines with minimum supervision, and perform well under pressure.
  • The excellent interpersonal and organisational abilities.
  • To meet the changing demands of a program, one must be willing to embrace challenges and learn new things.

 

Assignment duration: is one year, renewable based on performance and funding availability.
