So They Can. Tanzania’s Umoja Education Collaborative initiative is implemented in 29 government primary schools and 5 secondary schools across four Wards (Mamire, Endakiso, Qash, and Gallapo) of Babati District Council in the Manyara Region. We prioritize teacher professional development, student well-being, capacity building for school boards and management, government collaborations, community and stakeholder involvement, school improvement, and high-quality early childhood education.

 

So They Can has a zero tolerance policy for child abuse and exploitation in all forms, and it promotes children’s rights as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989). To guide this, So They Can’s personnel and spokespeople follow a Child Protection Policy (CPP) to ensure children’s rights are protected.

 

The key duties and responsibilities:

  • The create strong partnerships with communities to identify concerns and resources, map and use community resources, and plan and manage community projects.
  • Encourage community members to form and participate in Income Generating Activities in Groups.
  • To promote the formation, registration, and supervision of village savings and loan associations.
  • To ensure that community development projects are carried out in accordance with our mission, vision, and authorized plans.
  • To prepare and provide training and events that promote community growth and development.
  • To participate in the creation of budgets and plans for community development projects.
  • To support stakeholder engagement for Community Development projects, including participation in meetings with potential and existing partners.

 

 

Additional (Other) duties:

  • To support the promotion of the Child Protection Policy in the communities.
  • To support timely data collection with available tools.

 

 

Report:

  • To provide timely information and photos/videos/impact stories from projects as asked.
  • The timely reporting of completed activities in the organization’s MEL system.
  • To collect and prepare a lesson learned report to help with future projects.

 

 

 

Administrative Work:

  • To participate in weekly staff meetings on schedule and present updates.

 

The required Skills and Experience:

  • The commitment to safeguarding and protecting children.
  • The commitment to the So They Can vision, mission, and values.
  • A minimum of two years’ applicable skills and experience in community and/or rural development.
  • A degree or diploma in community development, rural development, or a related subject of study.
  • Experience working with children is advantageous.
  • Understanding/ knowledge, abilities, and/or experience with community engagement.
  • The understanding/ knowledge and experience with the Village Savings and Loans Association Model is an added benefit.
  • The competent at using computer programs such as Word and Excel.
  • The understanding of various tools is an added benefit.
  • The capacity to operate alone.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Kiswahili and proficient in written and spoken English.
