OVERVIEW OF THE JOB:

The goal of Community Systems Strengthening (CSS) is to increase partner organizations’ ability to advocate for reforms, provide services, and support development and health objectives. By including a variety of community actors, CSS increases the ability of regional health systems to deliver equitable, long-lasting healthcare at the community level.

To support Tanzania Community Systems (CSS) projects, the Community Health Assistant works in tandem with Medical Teams Tanzania field staff and partner organizations in both the host community and refugee camp. She/he will continue to be informed on the best practices in community health programs and will offer technical leadership in the successful development and implementation of Community Systems Strengthening at the field level.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL WORK:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To effectively collaborate in the creation and delivery of community health interventions, establish regular engagements with stakeholders, such as people of the community, partner organizations, and other non-governmental organizations.
  • Determine the main issues and present community members’ needs and suggestions to help guide decision-making that will result in the appropriate application of general health responses.
  • Following CHW guidelines and keeping an eye on international and Tanzanian MOH standards compliance.
  • As you accompany the Community Health Workers on their daily home visits in the neighborhoods, zones, and streets, address any problems that come up.
  • Make sure that any instances of community members missing program activities are tracked down and re-enrolled.
  • Uses systems, reporting criteria, and data gathering technologies to fulfill Medical Teams and Donor needs.
  • Increase the degree of integration between community health initiatives and the primary healthcare system in the area by creating robust referral systems and engaging community health workers in health promotion initiatives.
  • Make certain that Community Health Workers (CHWs) provide preventive and basic curative health and hygiene information and services to homes, as well as assist in connecting them to referral facilities.
  • Work together with the MEAL Team to implement M&E systems, monitor community health, and generate evidence-based interventions.
  • Initiate interactions with partners, the community, and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to facilitate efficient cooperation in the creation and implementation of community health initiatives.
  • Encourage the growth of CHW employees through technical assistance, coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Take part in gathering information for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on community health initiatives, as well as in their preparation and reporting.
  • Communicate with partners to facilitate coordination, and participate in community and coordination meetings as well as other project-related gatherings that improve project performance and partnerships.
  • Take part in community health assessments, including those that deal with gender analysis, male and youth engagement, family planning-sensitive conversations, and systems for accountability and feedback.
  • Any additional tasks that the supervisor assigns.
  • By incorporating best practices into project design and bids, you can guarantee program quality.
  • Keep track of the outcomes and the lessons you learnt for future reference.
  • Encourage a culture of understanding and adherence to the code of conduct requirements of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace rules in order to support the safety of program participants and staff. In order to promote strong safeguarding practices, adhere to the safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations, and comprehend the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, incumbents must remain vigilant and responsive to any risks pertaining to the safety of children and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS, PERMITS, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • A diploma in nursing, public health, development studies, sociology, social work, or another field experience related to enhancing community systems is the minimal prerequisite.
  • The ideal degree is a bachelor’s.

 

SKILLS:

  • At least two(2) years of experience working for a global NGO or government agency on projects relating to community health.
  • Acquaintance with community-based health programming.
  • It is preferred to have prior work experience in humanitarian situations.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent knowledge of the field of humanitarian health; additional benefit: familiarity with nutrition and the survival of mothers, newborns, and children.

 

SKILLS:

  • Strong report writing abilities and the capacity to put together narrative parts for donor reports and proposals.
  • Proficiency with epidemiological analysis and fundamental data management.
  • Outstanding cross-cultural abilities and the capacity for effective, straightforward communication and negotiation at all levels.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal abilities, including negotiating, coaching, and advocacy.
  • Competent in setting up, keeping track of, and adjusting budgets as needed.
  • Adept at overseeing tasks through to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Somewhat adept at using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
