Concern/ About the role:
We are searching for a highly driven Security Engineer that wants to advance their career by joining our Global Information Services (GIS) Team. Reporting to the Lead Security Engineer, you will assist with continuous security operations and respond to events and alarms, playing an important part in ensuring our environment’s security as we deliver our mission globally.
In addition to daily security operations, you will be involved in some very exciting security initiatives, such as the global rollout of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint to 8,000 endpoints in 37 countries, increased Defender technology adoption, SIEM/SOC deployment, privileged identity management and audit of technical assets, cloud app security deployment, and patch management technology implementation. These measures are crucial to ensuring global security while we implement our digital/technology strategy.
You will have a solid understanding of security technologies and processes, particularly in Cloud computing, Azure, and on-premise systems. MSI has taken a “cloud-first” approach, with Microsoft as our preferred partner. An familiarity of security frameworks like CIS, NIST, Cyber Essentials, and ISO27001 would be beneficial.
With the business’s rapid speed of development and ongoing adoption of new technology, it is critical that this function be filled by a quick learner who can make an effect immediately. You love thinking outside the box to solve problems, can work independently on ongoing security chores, and take satisfaction in developing creative automated solutions, preferably utilizing PowerShell and PowerAutomate. You will also love working as a team.
While we are asking for a lot, we understand that not everyone can check all of the boxes, thus we are searching for the ideal person with a set of fundamental talents that can grow with the role. You will be supported in your development by learning about MSI’s adopted technologies, cross-training, on-the-job learning, and formal training courses. The post can be based in the United Kingdom or any African country where MSI operates a programme. We provide a hybrid office/remote working arrangement, with the occasional interesting international trip opportunity.

To do this job, you’ll need the following abilities:
- Be familiar with security principles, including but not limited to “zero trust,” “shared responsibility,” and “defense-in-depth” security approaches.
- Knowledge/ understanding Microsoft 365 Defender technology, including management, configuration, and the necessary security steps to respond to technology telemetry.
- He/she must be able to automate solutions, preferably utilizing PowerShell and PowerAutomate.
- Knowledge/ understanding the principles and technology that underpin cloud, infrastructure, and network security.
- The ability to handle and/or respond to security incidents in a calm and systematic manner, including taking command of the issue if necessary, managing and assigning duties, dealing with the incident, collaborating on reducing the impact, restoring affected services, and understanding/addressing the root cause.
- The desire and aptitude to learn new technologies in order to assist a period of transition and the deployment of new solutions to strengthen security throughout MSI.
- Knowledge/ understanding of security principles, technologies, and procedures for proactive security across many technologies.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with third-party providers and communicate clearly and concisely with coworkers.
This role requires the following experience:
- You will have at least 5 years of engineering experience deploying, managing, and working with security technology.
- You will be familiar with vulnerability assessment tool management (for example, Nessus).
- You will have Microsoft 365 Defender for Endpoint awareness and familiarity.
- You will understand Microsoft Windows server and desktop device security principles.
- You will have worked with incident response teams to efficiently address security incidents.
The Formal education / qualification:
- A certified security industry qualifications (e.g., CompTIA) are (desirable).
- skills include Microsoft 365 or Azure security/infrastructure (desirable).
- The CCNA/CCNP Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (desirable).
The Location: London, UK or Bristol (hybrid working, two office days per week), or elsewhere an MSI country programme works.
The Full-time: 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday (for UK-based team members).
Type of Contract: Permanent.
Salary: £34,200 – £45,000 per year for UK-based candidates. Discretionary bonus plus benefits.
Salary band: BG 7MP.
