We are looking for drivers for a five-year USDA project in Tanzania to grow and transform the chicken value chain of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into a sustainable commercial business. The project will develop the feed industry by incorporating climate-smart technology, improving animal health management practices, increasing capacity in agricultural finance services, and enhancing extension and service providers in Mbeya, Iringa, Songwe, and Rukwa. The Job Summary:

The driver’s responsibilities will include operating cars and transporting cargo and/or passengers for our organization. Drivers must maintain a safe driving record and adhere to all state and national driving laws, rules, and regulations. In this position, s/he will take pre-planned routes to locations or utilize maps and GPS to navigate. They will also keep the vehicle clean.

 

The Roles and responsibilities:

  • To drive vehicles as ordered and execute basic maintenance procedures to guarantee the longest possible operating life for this critical capital equipment.
  • To keep track of the vehicle’s maintenance record to verify that service schedules are followed and to notify the employer in advance when vehicle servicing is necessary.
  • To deliver parcels, letters, and other relevant items to offices and enterprises as needed, and on safari as ordered.
  • When necessary, drive large distances with or without LWR staff while adhering to all rules and regulations.
  • To ensure that all necessary procedures are taken in the event of an accident, as outlined in the laws and regulations.
  • Make sure that the car is always clean and in good condition, and that all documentation, such as insurance and a road license, is up to date.
  • Ensure that the car is always secure.
  • To ensure that the car has regular/day-to-day maintenance inspections, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires.
  • Take into account all available information on road conditions, accessible routes, and places (including current radio traffic news) to update daily.
  • Carry out/ perform basic repairs and make arrangements for any repairs, as well as establish a spare parts inventory for the vehicle.
  • To prepare and submit a vehicle monitoring report, including records of vehicle operations, maintenance, expenses, and mileage, at the end of each month.

 

 

The Education and Experience:

  • Candidates must have completed Form IV or higher education.
  • To possess a Class C driver’s license.
  • At least a level two advanced driver’s certificate from the National Institute of Transportation or another authorized institute.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of driving experience.
  • The previous experience working with an INGO will be advantageous.
  • Good driving record, with no serious incidents during the last two years.
  • A proficiency in Swahili and a basic comprehension of English are essential.
