LVIA is searching for a driver for the AICS-funded project entitled “Diverse Food System: Improving Nutrition by Supporting a Diversified and Sustainable Food System,”
The Starting date: November 1, 2024; 12-month contract, renewable.
The Salary: Based on the selected candidate’s experience and level of education.
About us/ Who we are:
The Italian non-governmental organization Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) operates in 10 African countries, including Tanzania. Its headquarters are located in Cuneo, Italy, and its offices in Tanzania are located in Dodoma, Chake Chake (Pemba), and Kongwa District in the Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa). For almost thirty years, LVIA has supported community development in Tanzania, with a focus on agriculture, health, and expanding access to clean water and hygienic conditions.
Summary of Work:
We are looking for a dependable and knowledgeable driver. The chosen applicant will be in charge of project staff transportation. Along with keeping the car in good working order, the driver must abide by all traffic laws and regulations.
The main responsibilities:
The Transportation:
- A safely transfer project personnel to and from designated places.
- Ensure on-time arrival and departure for project-related activities.
The Vehicle Maintenance:
- Perform regular vehicle inspections and ensure correct maintenance.
- Any mechanical issues should be reported to the appropriate authority right away.
Safety and Security:
- Follow all traffic rules and regulations.
- Implement safety precautions to safeguard the well-being of travelers.
The Logistics Support:
- Assist with loading and unloading project supplies and equipment.
- Work with the Project Coordinator to plan logistics for field activities.
The Record Keeping:
- Keep precise records of travels, mileage, and fuel use.
- Provide regular reports to the administrative department.
Job Requirements:
- Atleast 2 (two) years of relevant professional experience.
- A proven driving experience, preferably in an NGO or similar organization.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of local traffic norms and regulations.
- Excellent organization and communication abilities.
- The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed.
- Be a Tanzanian citizen with a thorough understanding of the local background on Pemba Island.
The Employee is asked to maintain a flexible attitude and a high level of adaptation to possible modifications and/or integration into the foreseen duties based on local needs, and to make an effort to integrate his/her work into the larger context of LVIA’s presence in Tanzania in order to facilitate consistency and continuity among current and prospective projects.
