The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is looking for an Electrical Supervisor to join and build the team.

The Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that all Barrick Tanzania safe work practices are followed and implemented in the department of responsibility.
  • Make sure that electrical repair plans and schedules are prepared and carried out on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis in accordance with mining and ore processing priorities.
  • Supervised, trained, and developed the electrical maintenance crew.
  • To provide leadership to ensure that workers and contractors follow safety and environmental standards that surpass global industry practices and any applicable statutory requirements.
  • To manage Succession Planning within the Team to ensure that Barrick develops Tanzanian personnel into positions of greater accountability. The advancement of Electrician Technicians to positions of greater accountability is a key performance indicator.
  • To lead the Outside Team in terms of odd shifts and dedication to the Barrick Gold principles.
  • To utilize Oracle maintenance management components to create an effective Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Create and execute procedures for identifying, approving, planning, scheduling, executing, and recording Outside Services electrical work that are consistent with Barrick requirements and best practices.
  • Set up and monitor maintenance planning and cost control systems.
  • Create a long-term electrical maintenance plan.
  • To manage the electrical workshop facilities.
  • To manage the on-site power supply and distribution.
  • To provide technical guidance in the development of training programs.
  • To provide continuing training, mentorship, and employee performance monitoring to create and sustain a safe, competent, and results-oriented Electrical Team.
  • A quality, affordability, and timeliness of electrical maintenance tasks are crucial to the overall project.
  • Make sure that electrical maintenance expenditures are kept at or below the specified budget.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency in order to ensure the prompt repair and maintenance of mine and plant electrical equipment. Contribute to operations by ensuring that all electrical repair actions are planned and done in a cost-effective way that causes minimal disruption to ore processing and mining operations.
  • To develop and promote high-quality customer service to all departments within the mine.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices by leading by example, responding swiftly to any unsafe conduct or circumstance that is detected, and monitoring standards.
  • Complete conformity with the project’s environmental management strategy.
  • To support the investigation and follow-up action on all loss events.
  • To monitor all maintenance activities and eliminate any wasteful practices to ensure agreed-upon maintenance targets are fulfilled.
  • Create and manage departmental technical plans to help accomplish the overarching business goal.

 

 

The qualification requirements:

  • NTA Level 3 qualification in electrical engineering.
  • A bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering/Associate Diploma NTA Level 4 or equivalent.

 

 

The experience and abilities (competencies) are required.

  • A minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience in electrical repairs and maintenance, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • The experience with systematic coaching and training of personnel in development is required.
  • The experience with automated electrical machine maintenance systems.
  • The experience with high voltage (33 & 6.6 KV) is required for the 20MW-Power Generation plant’s KTA-50G3 engines.
  • The experience in MV/HV switching and testing methods.
  • The programmable Logistic Controllers with CITECT-SCADA expertise.
  • The experience with Complex Protection Relays- SEPAM.
  • The experience with GSM functionality and setup.
  • The extensive knowledge of VSDs, soft starts, autotransformers, and liquid resistance starters (LRS).
  • The experience with maintenance budgeting and spares management.
  • The excellent safety record.
  • Good communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to interpret manuals, technical drawings, and electrical diagrams.
  • Driving abilities with a valid class D license.
