The Background:
Helen Keller International began initiatives to provide vitamin A supplementation (VAS) to youngsters in the 1970s. We have pioneered this crucial job all around the world. Vitamin A is an essential component for young children’s immune systems and vision. According to research, delivering vitamin A supplements twice a year to children aged six months to five years can cut child mortality by about a fourth. We currently provide vitamin A to millions of disadvantaged children each year in twelve countries across West, Central, and East Africa. While project teams in our national offices implement the programs, a central team provides leadership, management, and a wide range of programmatic and operational technical assistance to ensure our effect is maximized. Helen Keller is looking for a Finance Assistant to join the VAS Project Management Team (PMT).
The Scope of the Position:
Under the supervision of the Senior Program Finance Manager for the Vitamin A Supplementation (VAS) portfolio, the Finance Assistant, VAS, will assist in the creation and assessment of budgets and forecasts, as well as the maintenance of the financial monitoring system. He/she collaborates closely with the VAS regional team to handle financial monitoring and budget preparation.
The Responsibilities:
- Budgets: Under the supervision of the VAS regional finance coordinator, examine budgets generated by national teams and provide unified recommendations for budget improvements.
- predictions/ forecasts: Under the guidance of the VAS regional finance coordinator, assess predictions created by the regional program team and provide unified recommendations for improvement.
- Databases: update the donations database with each new donation received and keep precise records of budgeting processes.
- Power BI: convert budgets and projections into Solver template format before uploading to the financial PowerBI dashboard.
- Internal Reporting: Help the VAS regional team create quarterly financial reports utilizing data from the Power BI dashboard.
- Reporting: Assist with the preparation of donor reports and proposals.
- Coordination: Work closely with the VAS regional team to deliver accurate and timely financial information on the VAS portfolio.
The Job Qualifications:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance is required, along with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A Professional accounting and finance management experience.
- A highly computer savvy, with understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and good Excel skills, including pivot tables).
- The experience with Power BI will be an advantage.
- A good understanding/ knowledge of grant management.
The ability to:

- To maintain equilibrium when under stress.
- To work in a decentralized organizational structure with a strong collaborative focus.
- He/she must be adaptable (flexible) and capable of working in a fast-paced, challenging atmosphere.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- An overall comprehension of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- An appreciation for different cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrates strong analytical, time management, organizational, and customer service abilities.
