THE JOB PURPOSE:

The Kühne Foundation Tanzania (KF-TZ) is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) in Tanzania, with its main office in Dar Es Salaam, and its parent organization, the International Kühne-Foundation, based in Switzerland. KF-TZ, through its LEARN Logistics Program (www.learn-logistics.org), sees a world free of talent shortages in logistics and supply chain management, allowing for global trade and resilient economies. KF-TZ promotes local education possibilities to ensure a steady supply of highly trained graduates and experts at the university, vocational, and professional levels for logistics and supply chain markets across Tanzania. The commercial, agricultural, and health sectors place a strong focus on logistics and supply chain management.

 

The KF-TZ is engaging in a project titled “Youth Improvement in Tanzania” (May 2023 – April 2027), which aims to improve the living conditions and opportunities of young people in rural and urban communities throughout four Tanzanian regions through the implementation of impactful activities. The initiative brings together three INGOs’ expertise, experience, and networks to provide comprehensive support and maximize synergistic potential.

The primary direct beneficiaries of the project are 50,000 young men and women aged 15 to 30. They will be in and out of school, living in both rural and semi-urban regions. This age group comprises youth in various stages of their lives, and the project strives to support both their personal and professional careers. Specifically, KF-TZ will: i) train youth in logistics, supply chain management, entrepreneurship, and job readiness linked to agro- and health logistics; and ii) provide advisory services to improve agricultural logistics at the farm level, as well as strategic and operational improvements to food supply chains.

 

 

THE BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE POSITION.

Oversee and organize the project’s financial activities, ensuring compliance with Tanzanian and donor regulations.

The candidate (applicant) will also be responsible for budgetary management, as well as the creation and review of financial reporting in close collaboration with other Finance Managers. In addition, the Finance Manager will be in charge of consolidating all financial reports to be given to the donor.

 

 

THE SCOPE OF FUNCTION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • To manage all accounting activities and procedures related to the project budget, ensuring that they comply with statutory laws, corporate policy, Tanzanian and donor standards.
  • Create (prepare) KF-TZ accounting and financial reports for submission to the donor and other stakeholders/partners as needed.
  • Make sure that a good financial management policy and system are in place and operational.
  • To ensure that all procurement-related tasks are completed on schedule and in accordance with corporate and donor policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the creation, negotiation, filing, and tracking of documentary issues (such as project budgets and rental agreements).
  • Sun-Systems ensures data entry and booking in its accounting system.
  • Train KF.TZ workers on financial Donor processes and rules.
  • To contribute to financial planning, budgeting, and the implementation of internal controls.
  • To monitor, compile, and monitor money requisitions and financial disbursements to guarantee correct funding (allowable expenditures).
  • Keep close track of the expenditure deadlines.
  • To contribute to the budget adjustments.
  • Maintain the timeliness of financial reports.
  • To participate in selected project meetings and contributing to financial matters.
  • To keep the Country Director informed of the project’s progress on a regular basis.
  • Become interested in financial reporting and auditing.

 

 

The Qualifications & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in management and accounting, finance, or any other comparable field is required.
  • The Professional Qualified Accountant (CPA/ACCA needed).
  • At least (a minimum) of 5 years of experience in a related role (finance, accounting, or business management), preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • The experience working on initiatives financed by donors will be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of Tanzania’s financial legislation and accounting/auditing processes.
  • The ideally, you should have experience with IPSAS accounting principles.
  • The practical knowledge with financial and cost accounting, budgeting, financial management, and auditing.
  • The practical experience preparing financial reports and doing budget variance studies.
  • The knowledge of accounting software. Knowledge of Sun Systems 6 would be advantageous.
  • Experience building capacity and mentoring staff.
  • The competence in computer abilities is required, particularly in MS Excel.
  • The experience operating in a consortium with several partners.
