The Girls First Initiative promotes girls’ rights by protecting their access to health, education, and economic progress.

The duration: 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

The start date: June 2025.

 

About the Girls First Initiative (GFI):

The Girls First Initiative (GFI) aims to empower young women and girls in Tanzania by providing access to education, business, mentorship, and health resources. We intend to address challenges such as gender-based violence, inequality, unemployment, and limited access to financial literacy, health care, and economic opportunity through a variety of programs and collaborations.

 

 

The Position Overview:

The Finance Officer Intern will play an important role in GFI’s financial operations, helping to manage and oversee the organization’s financial resources. This position will give the intern hands-on experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring that GFI’s financial activities meet regulatory requirements. The ideal applicant must be adaptable and willing to advance in several areas, such as programming and finance, as long as they contribute to the organization’s overall goals.

 

The key responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • To assist with the preparation of financial reports, statements, and budgets.
  • To assist the program team in maintaining correct financial records.
  • Help to prepare reports for donors, funders, and other stakeholders.

 

 

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • To assist in creating and reviewing project budgets.
  • To help track expenses versus approved budgets and identify discrepancies
  • Assist in the compilation of financial predictions for ongoing projects.

 

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • To assist in the processing of bills to ensure timely payment.
  • To maintain a record of all accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Help with settling payment inconsistencies.

 

Compliance and Documentation:

  • To assist with financial documents, ensuring compliance with GFI rules and Tanzanian financial regulations.
  • Assist with audits by supplying the necessary financial papers and reports.
  • Make sure that financial transactions adhere to donor rules and reporting requirements.

 

 

General Financial Administration:

  • To assist in managing petty cash and preparing cash flow estimates.
  • Assist the Finance Manager in overseeing the financial parts of fundraising and grant management.
  • To assist with additional financial responsibilities as needed.

 

Flexibility across departments:

  • Be adaptable and willing to assist areas outside of finance, such as program management and other organizational requirements.
  • To assist with program-related duties, such as monitoring and evaluation, as needed.
  • The willingness to contribute to and learn from many sectors of GFI, promoting growth in both finance and program management.

 

Job Qualifications:

Education:

  • The currently enrolled or recently graduated from a degree program in accounting, finance, business administration, or a similar profession.

 

 

The Skills and Experience:

  • A strong interest in finance and nonprofit work.
  • A proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to keep correct records.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.

Allowance:

  • Monthly allowance will be offered to cover transportation and other internship-related expenditures.
