The Position Summary:
The WAJAMAMA Foundation is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented finance officer to assist with our organization’s financial administration and operations. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of finance experience, notably in grant management and working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The Finance Officer is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with grant administration processes, and fostering good connections with donors and funders.
The key responsibilities:
The Financial Management:
- To assist in managing day-to-day financial activities, such as bookkeeping, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- To prepare financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards and donor guidelines.
- Contribute to the formulation of annual budgets and financial predictions in coordination with the finance staff.
The Grants Management:
- To assist with grant financial administration, including tracking expenditures and verifying compliance with grant agreements and sponsor criteria.
- To maintain accurate records of grant-related financial transactions and assist in the creation of financial reports for donors.
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure budgetary alignment and timely reporting of financial data.
The Donor and funder relations:
- To maintain orderly files for all donor contracts, grants, and communications to ensure easy access to pertinent information.
- Contribute to the creation of donor reports, ensuring that financial data is accurate and represents the organization’s impact.
- Make an assistance in identifying new funding opportunities and preparing grant bids.
The Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- To prepare and preserve financial documents while adhering to local rules and organizational policies.
- Make an assistance with internal and external audit processes by providing financial records and reports as requested.
- To contribute to the formulation and implementation of financial policies and processes that will improve organizational effectiveness.
The Administrative Support:
- To provide administrative support to project and fundraising teams, such as data entry, invoice processing, and account reconciliation.
- To support the projects and fundraising teams with specific projects and activities as needed.
The Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of three years of expertise in financial management, with a background in grant management in the nonprofit sector.
- A proficiency with financial applications and spreadsheets (such as MS Excel) for data analysis and reporting.
- The strong focus on detail and accuracy in financial record keeping.
- The excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work successfully with teammates and stakeholders.
