Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- All health, safety, and environmental (HSE) issues should be reported using an incident report.
- Participate and make a significant contribution to the site safety and environmental culture.
- Understands the mine planning and production requirements.
- Understands project planning, civil and architectural designs for various projects.
- Supervising and instructing Survey Technicians and Assistants.
- Responsible for carrying out surveys of all engineering, geotechnical, and geological designs with minimum supervision.
- Perform a bathymetric survey of the Tailing Storage Facility and other water bodies in the mine.
- Complete any other duties assigned by the Survey First Line Leader or another supervisor.
- Assist Survey Technicians with their day-to-day activities.
- Perform end-of-month data collection, computation, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Follow and enhance Mine surveying processes and practices.
- Ensure that survey data is entered into the proper formats and grid reference systems.
- Provide as-built surveys of all excavations and infrastructure.
- Ensure that data is properly and securely kept in databases and file systems.
- Responsible for updating underground and open cut mining plans on a regular basis to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Manage systems for laying out and maintaining survey reference marks on the surface and subsurface, as well as controlling drilling, development, service, and production activities.
- Check and control survey equipment to guarantee its efficacy and optimal use.
- Provide effective on-the-job training and mentoring to survey technicians and survey assistants, ensuring they learn new skills and reach their full potential.
- Ensure that all survey equipment is kept in functional condition by performing regular checks and user-permitted changes.
- Fill in for the Mine Surveyor while he or she is away.
- Develop a protocol for auditing survey activities carried out by Survey Technicians.
The required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Geomatics or Land Surveying.
Experience and competencies are required.
- At least three months to a year of experience in civil construction projects such as roads, dams, and buildings.
- Practical experience in a major mining environment, preferably underground and open pit.
- An excellent safety record.
- A solid understanding of Large Mining Surveying principles.
- Excellent knowledge of current surveying equipment such as drones,
- Trimble/Leica/Sokkia GNSS receivers, Trimble/Leica Total Station, optical levels and plummets, laser scanners, and Slimgyro/Boretrack.
- Strong knowledge of mining software including Geovia Surpac, Maptek, Datamine, AutoCAD 3D, Trimble Business Centre (TBC), ArcGIS, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Possession of a valid Tanzania driver’s license.
- Possession of a current Tanzania passport.
- Possession of a valid Remote Drone Pilot certificate will provide an edge.
