About Our Company:
We are now hiring an Industrial Relations Supervisor for a one-year contract with the option of extension, to be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on a rotating work schedule. Assuring Contractor IR management and Contractor implementation of IR plans and procedures is crucial to supporting the development and upkeep of a harmonious IR culture on the work site. Other key responsibilities include routinely monitoring Contractor IR performance, reporting IR issues, non-conformances, and worker grievances, and tracking all IR and worker welfare issues at the work site to closure. As construction progresses, keep an eye on and report on the performance of the contractor’s internal relations (IR), camp operations, labor relations, contractor management, and project reporting.
Accountabilities:
- The IR Manager provides direction and instruction to the IR Supervisor.
- Always keeps up professional working connections with project management, subordinates, and contractors.
- Manage daily IR Officer operations and ensure that they are in line with Contractor IR protocols within the assigned area of responsibility by coordinating with IR Officers and participating in IR-focused engagements and daily assurance.
- Manage and oversee the IR officer’s daily monitoring tasks.
- Help and advise IR Officers with their daily tasks and, if needed, with their interactions with Contractors.
- Assist the IR Manager in conducting hearings and disciplinary actions.
- Make sure that IR Officers are keeping all of their records—including employment contracts, disciplinary action records, demobilization notices, interview notes, and pre-employment checks—up to date.
- Routine and irregular oversight of the execution of the IR Plan by the contractor and subcontractor.
- Compile the IR Officers’ daily reports and Provide the IR Manager with daily Contractor IR Performance reports that include a summary of IR operations and updates on progress.
- Inform the Site Manager and IR Manager of any Contractor or Project IR issues that arise on the job site.
- Get the IR inputs ready for both regular and irregular reporting.
- Help the IR Manager to look into and resolve any field observations and IR non-conformance that result from monitoring of the project, contractor, and third party.
- Organize workforce planning in accordance with promises made in Local and National Content Plans and Contractor Labour Management Plans.
- Make sure that the hiring of contractors is done in accordance with the project’s and the contractors’ selection and recruitment processes as outlined in authorized labor management plans.
- Communicate about contractor labor management, camp management, recruitment strategies and procedures with project community relations supervisors, project H3SE, site manager, contractor IR / HR, and IR officers.
- Ascertain that all risks related to the planning and execution of contractor demobilization are appropriately recognized and handled by IR Officers.
- Complete all other tasks as instructed by the IRM in order to complete the project and reach its goals.
- Assure effective performance management for IR officers and pinpoint areas in need of training and improvement.
- Make sure there is enough IR coverage in the field by organizing your leave and human resources well.
- Ensuring that IR Officers have the tools they need to carry out their tasks in the field.
Competencies / Background:
Important:
- Candidates have to be citizens of Tanzania.
- A minimum of six years of experience in labor or employment law and industrial relations, as well as a minimum undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in the extractive industries, building or logistics, labor management, industrial relations, and camp operations.
- Experience working with a large supply chain and a diversified workforce that includes unskilled, semi-skilled, technical, and management/professional staff.
- Ability to keep up positive working relationships with subcontractors, contractors, and project management.
- Possess the ability to work independently, adhere to deadlines, and pick things up quickly and adaptably through on-the-job training.
- Capacity to interact and converse effectively with representatives of the Contractor.
- Perform onsite and offsite visits and audits to a professional standard while working alone.
- Excellent spoken and written Kiswahili and English.
- Robust data collection and IT capabilities.
- Networking and interpersonal abilities.
- Authoring reports, critical thinking, and extensive problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in supervision.
