Concerning the role (position):
We are looking for an intern who will assist the Digital Inclusion team in Arusha with their data annotation responsibilities. The applicant’s home base will be in Arusha. The individual will help the engineering and data teams with annotation duties, improving the quality of the data for training computer vision models.
The key responsibilities:
- Add annotations to photos of various crops, such as beans, sorghum, cassava, etc., and crop characteristics, including pods, flowers, grains, roots, etc.
- Work closely with the internal team and outside annotators to ensure accuracy and consistency by reviewing and improving annotations.
- Help the data and engineering team create and update training materials and annotation guidelines, and support the training of external annotators.
- Assist the engineering and data teams in keeping an extensive inventory of annotated datasets, which is crucial for the accessibility and quality of data.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of imaging data quality control procedures.
- As allocated, perform additional tasks pertaining to the project and research goals.
Conditions/ Requirements:
- Enrolled in or just finished (within the last year) a bachelor’s or master’s program in computer science, community development, agriculture, or a similar field.
- Proficiency with the Office suite from Microsoft.
- Superior written and spoken English language proficiency.
- It is necessary to have access to a personal laptop in order to do this work.
- Crop data collection experience is advantageous.
- An advantage is having prior experience with picture annotation activities and technologies.
- An advantage is having prior experience with Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- Strong organizational, prioritizing, problem-solving, and precision abilities.
Conditions (Terms) of employment:
Based in Arusha, Tanzania, this is an internship opportunity. The first agreement will be for a duration of six months.
