The Job Purpose:

The Internal Audit Manager will help the Group Head of Internal Audit, East Africa in ensuring the efficacy of controls in place to mitigate risks to Watu’s TZ strategic and operational objectives. In addition, he or she will monitor risk management initiatives carried out by the second line of defense.

 

The key duties and responsibilities:

IA Function Management.

  • Create an internal audit (IA) audit charter, containing IA terms of reference and service delivery strategy.
  • Lead and review annual risk assessments to develop a risk-based audit plan.
  • Create and implement a plan for the professional and career development of IA employees.
  • To determine an appropriate budget to fund IA’s planned operations.
  • To deploy enough workers with the necessary competencies to meet engagement targets.
  • To play an important role in the annual audit planning process.
  • To coach employees to improve their competency and professional development.
  • To determine the proper continuous professional development needed to keep employees productive at work.
  • To conduct an effective performance appraisal of IA teams based on key performance indicators.

 

 

The Engagement Planning:

  • To evaluate the audit plan’s relevancy, prioritization, and emphasis, as well as its connection with IA and corporate priorities.
  • Create and document risk-based audit strategies, including objectives, scope, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Use the risk framework to identify potential engagement sources.
  • To review the audit engagement objectives and scope to ensure that the identified risks are addressed.
  • Make review and approve audit engagement programs.
  • To revise audit strategies in accordance with company rollout plans for new technology applications.

 

 

The Engagement Execution:

  • To verify management’s implementation and maintenance of adequate internal controls.
  • Examining the reliability and integrity of financial and operational data, as well as the methods used to find, measure, classify, and report on such data.
  • To review management-established systems to guarantee compliance with policies, plans, procedures, rules, and regulations that may have a substantial impact on operations and management reports, as well as compliance determination.
  • To provide the WATU TZ BARC Committee with an annual written assessment of the effectiveness of the system of internal controls, risk management, and governance so that the Board can report on the system’s effectiveness, where appropriate.
  • To conduct an evaluation of important financial reporting controls in specified financial systems and procedures and submitting a written report to the WATU TZ BARC Committee.
  • Ad hoc and special assignments will be carried out as needed when formal consent has been acquired, taking into account the authorized annual audit plan.
  • Providing consulting services if it is unlikely that independence and impartiality will be affected in future audits.
  • Examine audit working papers to ensure that they adequately document information gathered, analysis performed, and supporting conclusions.
  • To present and discuss findings from risk-based audit engagements with process owners.

 

 

The Information Gathering and Analysis:

  • To review business insights and give suggestions for improvement.
  • To use insights and recommendations to improve work planning and delivery.
  • Tod efine areas of focus for data analysis that are consistent with the objectives and priorities of the strategies and plans.
  • To develop novel techniques for data collecting, processing, and interpretation, as well as data and information sources.

 

 

The Enterprise Risk Management:

  • To assess the organization’s combined assurance approach, which involves the adequacy of risks covered by the various assurance providers as well as the credibility of the assurance given.

 

 

The key performance indicators (KPI):

  • The satisfactory achievement of approved audit plans at ≥85% completion of fieldwork, with 70% of reports produced by year-end.
  • Timely quarterly reporting to the BARC.
  • Implementing internal audit and/or risk mitigation recommendations could result in operational efficiencies, process improvements, and cost savings.
  • The significance of audit results and risk mitigation suggestions
  • Companywide compliance calendars that are operationalized, updated, and robust
  • Strong risk management programs, including a departmental risk registry and risk champion networks.
  • The effective resource use and cost management.
  • The certifications obtained/number of training hours completed each year.
  • To adhere to the IIA Code of Ethics and Watu TZ Code of Conduct and Values.

 

 

The Qualifications:

Level of education: At least a university degree, preferably in a business-related area from a respected and recognized institution.

 

The Certifications:

  • CPA.
  • CIA/CISA will be advantageous.

 

 

Experience: 5 years or more of internal or external auditing with a respectable organization, with at least two of those years spent on audit committee reporting.

 

 

The Technical skills:

  • A proven understanding of accounting and auditing standards, laws, rules, and regulations, as well as risk management frameworks, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive technical understanding and expertise in business operations, corporate governance, regulatory risk, and regulatory change management.
  • A proven track record of improving process efficiency.
  • The excellent communication abilities, including the ability to communicate and influence at all organizational levels (both verbally and in writing).
  • The experience dealing with data and data modification tools is also necessary.
