With the first exports being vanilla, cocoa, and other flavor extracts, Natural Extracts Industries Ltd. (NEI) is leading Tanzania’s and Uganda’s sustainable natural flavor production sector. The business engages in value-added manufacturing, post-harvest processing, worldwide sales, and marketing. Currently, more than 10,000 vanilla farmers from Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Tanga, Morogoro, Iringa, Mbeya, Kagera, and Uganda are integrated into the smallholder outgrower network. By tripling the yearly income of each smallholder home, NEI hopes to have a long-term socioeconomic benefit through this sourcing approach.

 

Tasks and Accountabilities:

Technical Operational:

  • In order to ensure the seamless, safe, and dependable operation of the network, servers, and other IT equipment, managing the network and other IT infrastructure entails putting IT best practices (such as ITIL version 4) into practice and overseeing their implementation for the installation, upkeep, and security of IT systems, end-user hardware, and other IT network infrastructure.
  • Providing users with technical assistance include responding to their inquiries, assisting them in troubleshooting technical issues, and offering training as required.
  • Updating and maintaining IT gear and software comprises installing and configuring new software, correcting security holes, and, if needed, upgrading hardware.
  • Implementing hardware/user-device/network security, backup and disaster recovery (keeping at least three-tier data backups), establishing emergency response protocols, guaranteeing personal data protection, systems audit, and/or penetration testing are just a few of the steps that go into ensuring systems protection.

 

Project Management.

  • Putting project plans into practice, installing and configuring hardware and software in accordance with project specifications and requirements, and guaranteeing smooth system integration and optimization are all part of the execution of IT project plans.
  • Offering technical know-how using a thorough understanding of software and hardware capabilities to solve problems, overcome obstacles, and guarantee peak performance while a project is being carried out.
  • Working together with the project team: Collaborating with fellow team members to accomplish project objectives, exchanging data, and organizing endeavors to guarantee effective and punctual duty fulfillment.
  • Tracking the development of the project: Monitoring project progress, seeing any obstacles, and acting to avoid them can help to keep projects on track and under budget.
  • Communicating issues and progress: Giving technical leads and project managers, as well as other pertinent stakeholders, regular status reports on the project’s state and pointing out any obstacles or worries that might affect its completion.
  • Quality control and testing: Implemented solutions should be thoroughly tested to make sure they fulfill project requirements, find and fix any flaws or problems, and produce excellent outcomes that meet stakeholder expectations.

 

Communicating with vendors, service providers, and partners.

  • Effective stakeholder communication involves interacting with management, users, vendors, and the government on IT/cyber and data protection issues.
  • Work together with different departments: The IT intern is in charge of collaborating with other departments to make sure the organization’s demands are met by the IT infrastructure.
  • Oversee vendors: The IT manager is in charge of overseeing the work performed by vendors providing hardware, software, and services, ensuring that deliverables meet quality, craftsmanship, and legal requirements.

 

Additional obligations and tasks.

  • Perform any additional tasks that may be necessary to guarantee NEI’s business performance and IT-enabled operations are successful.
  • Achieving the goal of the company, which is to develop into a premier producer of natural flavor goods in Africa for the home baking and commercial kitchen markets while giving smallholder farmers a stable source of additional revenue.
  • Observe all work instructions and safety regulations, including Standard, without fail.

Operating procedures (SOPs), good manufacturing practices (GMPs), good health practices (GHPs), guidelines and regulations from the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), and food safety systems certification (FSSC 22000:2018v6) in accordance with the company’s quality management system, as well as the requirements for the company’s certifications (i.e., USDA/EU/JAS Organic, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, B-Lab, Ecovadis, etc.).

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • A diploma in computer science, networking engineering, information technologies, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification (NTA Level 6).

Knowledge, abilities, and skills needed:

  • Shown initiative, adaptability, and responsibility for deliverables.
  • Current understanding of computer hardware and software that meet industry standards.
  • Possessing leadership qualities and the capacity to motivate and sway others would be beneficial.
  • Ability to interact with people of different backgrounds and perspectives in a multicultural setting and to communicate both orally and in writing in English and Swahili with clarity and efficacy.
  • Capacity to analyze, visualize, and display data as well as create reports.
  • Honesty, a love of learning, synthesis, and critical thinking.
  • Strong ability to solve problems.
  • Project management experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), ERP systems, LDAP, and IT Device Management.
