The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a government executive agency established under Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997. Its primary function is to promote a good, sound, and healthy working environment by enforcing the Occupational Safety and Health Act No.5 of 2003 by inspecting workplaces to detect hazards that can endanger workers’ health, conducting medical examinations on workers, and providing education and training in occupational safety and health. OSHA’s history dates back to 2001, when it was founded as part of the Government Programme to Improve Service Provision to the Public, which was carried out under the Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997.
The OSHA was founded as a government agency responsible for regulating occupational safety and health on the Tanzanian mainland. OSHA is responsible for ensuring that employees work in safe surroundings free of occupational diseases and accidents, in accordance with established procedures and regulations. To regulate, enable, enforce, and promote safe and healthy workplaces by creating effective systems for preventing occupational diseases, ill health, accidents, and property damage in order to minimize production costs and improve.
