University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM New Vacancies) is Tanzania’s oldest and most prominent state university. It is located 13 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam and covers 1,625 acres atop the observation hill known as Mlimani in Kiswahili. It was founded on October 25, 1961, as the University College Dar es Salaam (UCD), an affiliate college of the University of London. It was briefly held in the premises of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) in Lumumba Street, Dar es Salaam, from its inception until 1964, when it was relocated to its permanent location on the hill.

At its founding, it had only one faculty, the Faculty of Law, and 13 students, one of whom was a female, Julie Manning. It joined the University of East Africa in 1963 as a constituent college, with Makerere University College in Uganda and Nairobi University College in Kenya. UDSM Vacancies became a full-fledged university on July 1, 1970, under Act No. 12 of 1970. UDSM launched Vision 2061, a strategy for its future development. The University is an equal opportunity employer, thus we urge all qualified people to apply.
