Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC)
The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) is Tanzania’s national oil company, totally owned by the Tanzanian government and whose shares are held entirely by the Treasury Registrar. The organization was created by Government Notice No.140 dated May 30, 1969, under the Public Corporations Act No.17 of 1969, as amended. The Petroleum Act of 2015 mandates the TPDC to handle Tanzania’s commercial elements of petroleum activities in the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, as well as to represent the government’s interests in petroleum and natural gas agreements. TPDC holds exclusive rights to the natural gas midstream and downstream value chains. It can also permit any other person to engage in regulated activities, particularly those over which TPDC has exclusive rights.
