The Uongozi means leadership in Kiswahili, and our organization’s primary goal is to inspire and enhance leadership. The Institute of African Leadership for Sustainable Development (UONGOZI Institute) was founded in 2010 by the Tanzanian and Finnish governments. Its mission is to inspire and equip African leaders to deliver inclusive and sustainable solutions for their countries and the continent as a whole.
The Institute takes a holistic and mutually reinforcing approach to capacity building, recognizing that leadership skills are acquired through a continual, lifelong learning process. Its two strategic pillars, leadership and sustainable development, are handled in four major areas: executive education, policy dialogues, action-oriented research, and technical support. Its clients include both organizations and individuals from the public, corporate, and civil society sectors.
