To bolster its security staff, Sightsavers is actively seeking a Regional Safety and Security Officer (RSSO) for East Africa. This role will oversee overall operational management for Sightsavers in Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda and report to the Head of Security – Africa Operations.

Responsibilities:

The Regional Safety and Security Officer will oversee security threats in the countries where they operate in conjunction with country directors and security focal points (SFPs). in charge of overseeing all facets of regional security management.

The position holder will oversee and document all security events, carry out and evaluate risk assessments, keep an eye on intelligence sources, and keep track of any changes pertaining to regional security. They will contribute to monthly security reports and provide in-depth analysis on particular threats to the senior management team. In addition to implementing new security initiatives there, they will evaluate and authorize all travel and activities inside their territory.

Skills and Experience:

  • A track record of accomplishment in ensuring safety and security at the national or regional level in East Africa.
  • A vast network of relationships in the area.
  • Professional background in the humanitarian or development fields.
  • proficiency in both written and spoken French and English.
  • Expertise operating in hazardous and distant settings.
  • Experience in managing crises and incidents.
  • Risk evaluation, emergency preparation, and upkeep of security records.
  • Capacity to interact with a range of stakeholders with assurance, including government partners, other INGOs, and Sightsavers employees throughout the region.
  • Able to operate independently and discern when to report potential risks.
  • Able to travel widely throughout the region in order to provide direct assistance to national offices.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing security training to employees Degree in international relations, security, intelligence, or conflict studies Security certifications like ASIS, CPP, PCI, PSP, or CPO.
