The University of London’s Makerere University College hosted the extra mural studies division of the Institute of Adult Education (IAE) when it was founded in 1960. The Institute became a department in 1963 and was housed under the University College of Dar es Salaam. Later, it was given independent status and was founded by Parliamentary Act Number 12 of 1975, which was issued by the Ministry of National Education—now known as the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology—at the time. As of right now, the Institute serves as a hub for research, learning, and training in the field of adult education for students pursuing post-primary education as well as certificate, diploma, and degree programs. Regional centers that have been created in 26 regions of Tanzania’s mainland have allowed it to extend its services to the local level. IAE is dedicated to provide adult learners high-quality, non-formal continuing education and training.
