Management and Development for Health (MDH)
The main goal of Management and Development for Health (MDH), a non-profit, non-governmental organization, is to assist in tackling Tanzania’s and global public health concerns. Reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH), nutrition, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases of public health importance, and strengthening the health system are among the objectives. The Ministry of Health (MOH), the President’s Office Regional Authorities and Local Government (PORALG), donor agencies, academic and non-academic institutions, implementing partners, civil society, community-based and faith-based organizations, and others are just a few of the local and international organizations that MDH firmly believes in and collaborates with.
Encouraging HIV transfer to newborns by generating evidence to optimize prevention and care for pregnant and postpartum adolescent girls and young women with HIV in Tanzania (ENGAGE) is a four-year study that MDH and Karolinska Institutet are collaborating on from 2023. This study’s primary goal is to examine and improve services for pregnant and postpartum Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) with HIV in order to prevent vertical HIV transmission and maintain the health and well-being of mothers and families. As a result, MDH is looking for capable and enthusiastic individuals to conduct qualitative field interviews for this study.
Position: Qualitative Field Interviewer – 4 Posts
Job location: MDH Head Office, Dar es Salaam
Answers to / Reports to: Senior Material and Child Health Manager
Duration: 4 Months
All participating regions’ data collection for the ENGAGE Study will be aided by the Qualitative Field Interviewer (QFI). They will work closely with the research teams at the MDH headquarters and medical facilities to carry out the study plan, monitor its advancement, keep an eye on deadlines, and arrange for the translation, transcription, and collecting of data. Additionally, research progress reports will be produced by the QFI and sent to high management.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Interviewing People / Conducting Interviews:
- Acquire the necessary authorizations for carrying out research operations from public health facilities and regional districts, comprehend the study’s protocol, and find subjects.
- Conduct in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus groups (FGDs) with clients in accordance with the study protocol, making use of all necessary technical standards.
- Create a code book for the information.
- Utilize NVivo or Dedoose software to code data.
- Examine the information.
- Compose summaries of the results.
Data Management:
- Interpret and record interviews as needed by the study team.
- Compose and turn in thorough notes about your observations and data collection.
- While gathering, storing, and exchanging data, make sure that confidentiality protocols and guidelines are followed.
Ethics and Compliance:
- Verify adherence to the code of conduct, corporate performance requirements, and safeguarding guidelines.
- Respect all confidentiality guidelines to safeguard the integrity and privacy of client information.
- Before enlisting a potential participant, obtain their explicit informed consent.
Additional obligations/ Additional Responsibilities:
As assigned and decided upon in consultation with the supervisor, carry out further related tasks.
Qualifications in Education and Profession:
- A bachelor’s degree in the humanities, social sciences, or a field connected to health.
- A master’s degree is an extra benefit.
- Five years of expertise gathering and analyzing qualitative data, particularly through in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs).
- Prior experience dealing with young people and pregnant women, in particular, as key vulnerable populations (KVP).
- The ability to use NVIVO or Dedoose, two programs for managing qualitative data.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong writing and communication abilities in reports.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and adaptability to expectations and needs at work that are changing quickly.
- The capacity to function well both on one’s own and in a multicultural team.
- Proficiency with computers, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must speak English well and be a native Kiswahili speaker.
Availability and Compliance:
- For the duration of the employment engagement, must be totally available.
- Willingness to spend half of their working time traveling outside of Dar es Salaam.
