Accountabilities:
- In the workplace, exhibit teamwork and safe work practices.
- Follow SOPs on a daily basis to ensure safe work, including those related to isolation, lockouts, confined spaces, working at heights, lift plans, rescue plans, etc.
- To protect the safety of both workers and materials, workers who are hoisting and transferring loads should be directed orally or using signals.
- Carry out the diagnostics and equipment maintenance schedule.
- Examine all lifting equipment, and maintain records for both stationary and mobile cranes.
- Make sure that safe work practices are followed, including obligatory safety meetings and training, the use of PPE when needed, incident and accident reporting, and strict adherence to all applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to occupational health, safety, and the environment.
- Adhere to all maintenance protocols and guarantee that mechanical tasks are completed in a standard manner, taking care not to further harm any system, equipment, or component.
- Make sure that all equipment is isolated, follow the guidelines for working in confined spaces and at heights, and do pre-start inspections and checks.
- In order to meet production and cost goals, maintain Crane equipment safely and effectively by doing preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Perform fault detection, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance to address unplanned equipment outage incidents.
- Make sure maintenance procedures yield the highest possible level of equipment availability.
- To ascertain the necessary resources and materials, including job sheets and the number and quality of each, use the work instructions.
- Before utilizing a crane, give it a basic inspection.
- Make that preventative maintenance is being performed in accordance with maintenance requirements by doing PM inspections.
- Perform necessary equipment upgrades and modifications for mobile and plant systems.
- Give the rigger supervisor accurate and fast feedback on any circumstances that might impair the equipment’s functionality.
- Make that the Maintenance Supervisor is updated on the state of equipment availability, as are all stakeholders.
- Identifying mechanical resources and equipment, as well as choosing and examining tools and equipment.
- Monitoring of unfinished maintenance and repairs.
- Engage fully in training exercises to expand your skill set and reach your greatest potential.
- Give less experienced staff members the proper on-the-job training and mentoring under the supervision of the HGV Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualification standards:
- Full Technician’s Certificate, VETA Grade I, and Mechanics Trade Certification.
- Solid understanding of best practices and mining safety regulations.
Requires experience and proficiency.
- Seven to ten years in a maintenance capacity overseeing crane mechanics on a variety of mobile crane brands, including Terex and Liebherr.
- It is beneficial to have prior open-pit mining experience.
- Requires prior expertise diagnosing and fixing problems with mobile cranes.
- Excellent communication abilities in English, both written and spoken.
- Identification of hazards and evaluation of risks.
- Recognize the mobile crane’s technical drawings and instructions.
- Hold a valid driver’s license in the light vehicle manual class.
- Strong foundation and experience in scheduled maintenance, both strategically and technically.
- The capacity to reliably oversee such a diverse portfolio under demanding circumstances.
