Leading African research institution Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) has a proven track record of creating, evaluating, and verifying health-related technologies. The Institute’s work today covers a wide range, including biological and ecological sciences, intervention studies, health-systems research, and policy translation. It is driven by a core strategic mission for research, teaching, and services.

 

Summary of Position:

During the designated term, the regional coordinator will be required to work full-time under the direct supervision of the program coordinator. The program thematic leads will have a dotted reporting line to the regional coordinator. Along with doing other regional administrative tasks, he or she is anticipated to:

 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plan and oversee the management of the entire work in the region in conjunction with the program coordinator.
  • Plan and organize the program’s effect and results measurement, monitoring, and liaison activities with the head office, including reporting on regional developments and trends.
  • Show that you have a solid grasp of the procedures and work streams of the Regional and Council health management teams by collaborating closely and coordinating actions with them.
  • Maintain the feedback loop by communicating with thematic leads and their corresponding tracks, offering assistance in the thematic areas and promptly sending input to the Council and Regional Health Management teams.
  • Encourage and uphold consistent communication with stakeholders and members in the region (R/CHMT).
  • Maintain and update a database of stakeholders and other pertinent parties.
  • Build a professional rapport with partners, other important constituencies, and members of the Council and Regional Health Management.
  • Work together with other regional coordinators to find areas where you can work together and chances for collaborative projects.
  • Oversee the Regional Office file system, keeping track of, recording, completing, and upgrading documents in the appropriate format for later use.
  • Assist in carrying out program activities and meeting Regional Office responsibilities by providing operational and logistical support.
  • At the regional level, offer support and technical assistance.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • It is necessary to have at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience with clinical background, health system strengthening, maternal and newborn health, and health service delivery. Additionally, a Master’s degree in public health, demographics, community medicine, health policy, health system administration, or an equivalent discipline is required.
  • An extra benefit is program management experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Prior track record of success collaborating with regional governments, council health management teams, and regional health teams.
  • Prior encounter collaborating with and using development partners.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of national and international NGOs, the government, and development partners should be demonstrated.
  • Outstanding presenting, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal abilities, encouraging collaboration and empowering partners and other team members to reach goals.
  • The capacity to function well in a demanding workplace with plenty of responsibilities, tight deadlines, and high performance expectations.

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Professionalism: Extensive knowledge of development issues, comprehension of and experience with dealing with the media; demonstrated ability to manage, write, edit, and integrate diverse information from multiple sources quickly; demonstrated ability to process and integrate information from multiple sources.
  • Communication skills include asking clarifying questions, expressing interest in two-way communication, speaking and writing clearly and effectively, listening intently, accurately interpreting others’ messages, and responding appropriately. It also shows that one is open to sharing information and keeping others informed.
  • Organizing and planning entails setting clear objectives that align with predetermined strategies, prioritizing tasks and assignments, adjusting priorities as needed, setting aside enough time and resources to finish the work, anticipating risks and accounting for contingencies, keeping an eye on things and making necessary adjustments to plans and actions, and making effective use of time.
