Results for Development (R4D) is looking for a Senior Program Officer who is highly driven and dynamic to fill the position of Senior Market Shaping Specialist. This position will play a crucial strategic leadership role in managing the Tanzania-based team of the Market Shaping practice.

R4D’s Market Shaping Practice (MSP) collaborates with agents of change to reshape markets, systems, and intersections across Africa and Asia to promote health equity. In order to solve issues that have been recognized by country partners and are supported by thorough assessments, we create, refine, and facilitate the catalytic implementation of long-lasting solutions at the international and national levels. Our work ensures that the markets for life-improving goods, services, and systems operate with improved efficiency, which in turn improves health outcomes and advances health equity. We do this by using practical and business-driven approaches, such as crafting cost-effectiveness and financing gap analyses, improving demand forecasting, developing purchasing and value chain strategies, and increasing market transparency around the number of potential users. We have used our experience to lower costs and provide better access to high-quality health (including TB, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and maternity, neonatal, and child health markets), nutrition, and education products.

 

 

Select MSP projects includes:

  • By working closely with government partners and other important market players, iterative market shaping techniques will increase access to medicines for children pneumonia.
  • Reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health (RMNCH) product marketplaces are being transformed by utilizing market shaping and health commodity finance strategies.
  • Enhancing ecosystems for assistive technology (AT) and expanding access to AT.

Title: Senior Market Shaping Specialist

Answers to/ Reports to: Associate Director

Terms: 2 Years, renewable

Job location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

 

 

On this dynamic team (high impact team), as a Senior Market Shaping Specialist, you will:

  • Contributes, helps, and engages in projects, activities, and initiatives as required by management in order to fully engage as a member of R4D.

 

Give regular guidance and technical leadership.

  • In close collaboration with the MSP Tanzania team, oversee the formulation of analytical problems and the creation of technical qualitative and quantitative analytical methods and products (such as stakeholder mapping and landscaping analyses, quantification and procurement data analysis, and coaching team members in analytics) for the Tanzania MSP portfolio.
  • Gain knowledge from analyses and oversee the creation of excellent, useful materials for the government, donors, and partners.
  • In close collaboration with MSP and R4D leadership, find innovative ways to grow ongoing work in Tanzania. You should also be able to lead and successfully participate in business development activities.

 

 

Oversee partner engagement both within and beyond.

  • Develop new relationships and manage existing ones with Tanzanian partners in close coordination with MSP leadership. These partners include the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Pharmacy Council, the Tanzania Medicine and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), TAMISEMI, the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), supply chain actors, non-governmental organizations, private sector importers, distributors, wholesalers, and associations, as well as donor agencies and foundations.
  • Create communication and knowledge management plans to encourage the adoption and spread of our work.
  • Participate actively in teamwork within R4D and represent Tanzanian parts of the MSP portfolio.

 

 

Handle teams and high-impact initiatives with effectiveness.

  • 1-3 projects should be managed on a day-to-day basis to ensure that all programmed workstreams are executed effectively. Create project work schedules and make sure that everything is completed on time. This includes handling arising issues in a proactive and innovative manner and foreseeing potential solutions.
  • Manage people by giving team members based in Tanzania guidance, suggestions, and coaching in accordance with MSP leadership; this may involve supervisory duties.
  • Participate in the ongoing development of a supportive and cooperative team environment.

Your background ought (experience) to consist of:

  • A master’s degree in business/management, public health, public policy, or another relevant advanced degree is desired.
  • Seven years minimum of related work experience. Candidates with prior expertise designing product introduction/scale-up strategies, developing and implementing commodities financing strategies, doing market research or analysis, and/or extending access to healthcare, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, will be given preference.
  • A proven track record of establishing relationships, advocating on behalf of many stakeholders in multicultural settings and between public and commercial sector players; knowledge of close collaboration with the Tanzanian government is also pertinent.
  • A track record of driving the creation of excellent analyses from conception to completion and using those analyses to influence decision-makers’ actions for maximum impact.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, with a track record of creating and delivering engaging presentations.
  • A history of leading teams across several workstreams and a passion for fostering the professional development of team members.
  • The capacity to work in a fast-paced, open-structure, multicultural, and geographically dispersed team while exercising strategic thought and managing ambiguity.
  • Strong preference for significant experience in Tanzania or East Africa.
  • Knowledge of Kiswahili is advantageous.
