For more than 2.5 million individuals in rural India and Africa, SolidarMed enhances healthcare. We train and develop local health workers in addition to strategically enhancing the medical facilities that are already in place. Our health professionals work closely with local partners to develop our programs, providing on-site support. SolidarMed works to increase public awareness of global health issues in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

In order to oversee our project in Tanzania and become a valuable member of our passionate and dedicated local team, we are offering an exciting opportunity to an experienced project manager with an academic background in public health and/or medical sciences.

 

Adolescents’ Health in Adolescents’ Hands (AHA!)

Type of Contract: Fixed term (100%) Minimum of 3 years.

The Placement of work: Mahenge – Ulanga, Morogoro region, Tanzania.

The start of contract: January, 2025

 

In order to provide technical leadership and control for the implementation of the second project phase (2025–2027), the project manager plays a crucial role.

In the rural Tanzanian region of Ulanga, the initiative AHA! seeks to improve the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights of adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19. It tackles the main issues in this situation, which are the undersupply and unmet need for adolescent-friendly SRH information and services. Increasing youth participation and adolescent-led events is a crucial aspect of this project.

To guarantee the project’s successful execution, the project manager and the SolidarMed project team will collaborate closely with the communities, teams from health facilities, the education department, the Council, and the regional health management teams.

 

Your duties and responsibilities:

The Project implementation, steering and technical support.

  • Take the lead in carrying out the project.
  • Create work plans and reports in accordance with donor specifications and established milestones.
  • Prepare all project-related legal documentation and make sure it is valid (such as MOUs with authorities).
  • Create and proactively distribute suggestions for the project’s evidence-based future development.

 

Finance, procurement, administration, and human resources.

  • Directing, supervising, and mentoring the Ulanga project team.
  • Make that the project’s resources (materials, finances, and labor) are managed properly.
  • Make that the project budget is handled appropriately, effectively, and efficiently.

 

Research, Monitoring and Reporting.

  • Make sure there is enough data analysis, project monitoring, and utilization for steering and actions.
  • Oversee the operational research and evaluations for the project, including the creation of publications and distribution of the findings.
  • Create excellent project reports and submit them on schedule to the appropriate authorities and funding sources.

 

The representation, partnership, coordination and policy dialogue.

  • Make sure that teenagers can play a relevant part in the project cycle management processes and involve all pertinent project personnel, stakeholders, and authorities.
  • Seek out new alliances and networks on a proactive basis and engage in policy discussions.
  • Encourage SolidarMed to be seen and heard in local, national, and international contexts.

 

 

What’s on your profile?

We are seeking a highly driven candidate with the following credentials to best integrate into our dynamic, interdisciplinary team:

  • A medical professional (MD) or public health specialist (MPH) with a minimum of five years of experience managing staff and finances for projects.
  • Work experience in public health, including health promotion and teaching in Sub-Saharan Africa’s rural communities.
  • Strong communication, negotiating, and organizational abilities to promote policy discourse.
  • Experience in scientific interchange, information sharing, and implementation research (research experience would be an asset).
  • Strong computer abilities, ideally with data analysis as well.
  • Imaginative, adaptable, self-taught, and open-minded.
  • A readiness to travel for networking and representation both inside the district and beyond the nation.
  • Proficient (spoken and written) Kiswahili or an openness to learning.
  • Prior job experience in Tanzania and the surrounding area would be beneficial.
