Job location: The Role will be based in UK or one of the following countries where WaterAid works : Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa or Nepal subject to the right to work eligibility in the respective countries.
For the UK location, we provide remote working options: At least 40% of working hours are spent in person at a WaterAid office. WaterAid is based in Canary Wharf, London, and will serve as your contract base and location for employees based in the UK.

About the Team:
In order to provide directors and trustees a view on the efficacy and sufficiency of internal controls, risk management, and governance, WaterAid established an internal audit function inside the Global Assurance Team. Internal Audit conducts audits, including partner organization audits, in the UK, other WaterAid Federation Member Countries, and WaterAid Country Programs. In addition, Internal Audit offers management advice on matters pertaining to governance, control, and risk management. The Chief Executive receives direct reports from the independent internal audit function.
About the Role:
You will carry out an agreed-upon program of audits throughout WaterAid and its partner organizations in addition to any additional ad hoc work and investigations that may be required as our assiduous and persistent internal auditor. WaterAid is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of financial honesty and professional competence. In order to fulfill this commitment, the post holder will be expected to carry out an agreed-upon program of internal audit work, which will include conducting investigations and reviews as needed, supporting management on ad hoc projects, and conducting audits throughout the WaterAid global federation and its partner organizations. The position holder shall adhere to and carry out their work in conformity with professional auditing standards.
In this role, you’ll:
- Conduct internal audits to guarantee that control measures, including financial ones, are adequate and carried out according to plan. The following duties will be included in internal audits, which will cover functions of the UK head office, other WaterAid Federation Member Countries, regional offices, Country Programs, and partner organizations:-
- Attend to management’s requests for support and guidance on any issues pertaining to governance, risk management, and control systems. The following tasks will be part of this:
- Contributed to the Global Assurance function’s development by using:
- Investigate possible fraud and other financial irregularities while adhering to best practices for data privacy, confidentiality, and other issues.
About You:
- Integrity, sensitivity, persistence, and honesty.
- Proficiency and comprehension in risk-based auditing methodologies.
- Strong analytical, financial, and numerical skills, as well as a flair for financial management and budgeting.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and risk management.
- Strong report writing and communication abilities; either native or highly proficient in the English language at work;
- Comfortable speaking with trustees and managers at all levels of the organization.
- Outstanding organizational and time management abilities, as well as the capacity to balance several tasks and adhere to deadlines.
- High level of IT literacy.
- Exceptional interpersonal abilities and a track record of working across cultural boundaries.
- A readiness to travel and the capacity to operate alone under minimal guidance.
Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:
- An accredited member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA) or a professional accounting certificate recognized by the Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies (CCAB).
- Possessing prior experience in the INGO sector.
- Ability to audit with proficiency utilizing data analytics methods.
- Credentials and/or prior experience investigating fraud.
- Proficiency in French or Portuguese.
- As well as proficiency in the languages of South Asia or Africa in the nations where WaterAid operates.
