Job Title: Junior Information Security Officer

Job location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Job Duration: 12 months fixed term, with the possibility of an extension based on financing.

An Overall Job Purpose:

The working within the cross-country IT Projects team, the junior information security officer will routinely monitor information systems across BBC Media Action’s global footprint to help protect them from attacks, as well as collaborate with country office colleagues to ensure end-user devices meet security requirements.

 

The Main Duties and Accountabilities:

  • To operate cyber security monitoring systems while adhering to agreed-upon incident response methods.
  • To compile logs, preparing written reports, and implementing alert and escalation protocols can all help with cyber security event reporting.
  • To respond to occurrences, use the agreed-upon methods.
  • Prepare and distribute reports on cyber security incidents to internal and external agencies.
  • To monitor client audit tools while trying to update and remediate end-user devices.
  • To document and update the system’s documentation and records.
  • To understand and follow BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy, staff code of conduct, and financial policy, particularly with retirement and fraud.
  • To report any safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the Country Director or through the Whistleblowing Policy.
  • Carry out any additional duties that may be assigned.

 

 

The Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • A true passion for information systems (IS) and technology.
  • An awareness of information systems principles and best practices.
  • Having experience working in a Microsoft Windows environment, preferably with log aggregation tools or centralized administration consoles.
  • To understand and experience in cyber security roles.
  • Be able to prioritize responsibilities and recognize when to seek help.
  • A reasonable level of communication and presenting abilities in English, both oral and written, is required.
  • Experience with appropriate toolsets will be advantageous.
