BACKGROUND:

The Amref Health Africa – Tanzania is an autonomous, non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) whose aim is “to improve people’s health by partnering with and empowering communities and strengthening health systems”. Amref Health Africa-Tanzania is mostly funded by multilateral, bilateral, and national donors. It runs a number of programs, including HIV/AIDS/TB/Malaria, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health, water and sanitation, and clinical outreach.

The Amref Health Africa Tanzania’s projects address the needs of underserved groups, primarily women and children, in accordance with national health priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. We seek to improve the efficacy, efficiency, and sustainability of health care by strengthening health systems, increasing access to services, advocating for stronger community health systems, and influencing health policy. With the aforementioned backdrop, Amref Health Africa Tanzania has the following vacancy:

 

 

Job Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant

Type of employment: Intern

Contract’s length: 6 M

Answers to/ reports to: Project Manager

 

 

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Monitoring and Evaluation Intern will help monitor and evaluate the Afya Himilivu Project. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the overall M&E and learning needs of the Afya Himilivu project, including spending many of the fundamental M&E needs and producing results based on real data to demonstrate the project’s performance. The incumbent will play a role in promoting critical learnings for project improvement and overall organizational learning.

 

 

The main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist with developing/ drafting and/or finalizing the project’s M&E Plan, and keep it up to date with project activities and deadlines as needed.
  • Examine/ review the quality of current data in the project’s subject areas, the procedures for collecting it, and the extent to which it will give useful statistics for impact evaluation.
  • Make supervision for regular data collection through implementing partners and assure data quality through random verifications and validations.
  • Record, organize, and maintain monitoring and evaluation data in a secure and easily accessible manner.
  • Make sure that project performance is appropriately stored and synced with the Amref information management system.
  • Analyze and share results based on regular monitoring data.
  • To provide technical assistance with M&E and evidence-based suggestions to the appropriate Project Manager and Partners.
  • To provide technical assistance to the project to increase performance by gathering evidence such as best practices and lessons learned.
  • To give/ provide and contribute to research generation and dissemination.
  • Make sure that field activities are effectively linked with the existing project monitoring and evaluation strategy.
  • Assist project workers and the finance team in preparing biannual and annual organizational reports.
  • Carry out/ perform any additional relevant duties given by the Project Manager.

 

 

THE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:

Monitoring.

  • Collaborate with M&E and project teams to develop the project’s monitoring plan.
  • To update project performance in the Amref information management system (AIMS), and ensure that the program team is in compliance with AIMS.
  • Collaborate with project teams to gather data against predetermined metrics.
  • Make sure and support the quality of data acquired by partners, entered into the database, and stored in the system.
  • Under the direction (guidance) of the project manager, offer comments to partners and program teams on project performance based on monitoring data findings.

 

 

Evaluation.

  • Using (with) technical assistance from the Amref MEAL team, work with the project team to plan, coordinate, and conduct project evaluations (baseline, mid-term, and end-line).
  • Using (with) technical support from the Amref MEAL team, assist the team in creating and performing an implementation monitoring survey (PIMS).
  • To assist the MER Team with research documentation and archives.

 

 

The Reporting and Documentation.

  • To contribute to the development of quarterly, biennial, and yearly reports.
  • Create and distribute high-quality field visit reports to the appropriate Amref Health Africa professionals.
  • To provide project inputs on important reports for upload to the main source—AIMS. Ability to document best practices and lessons learnt.

 

 

Planning.

  • Using/ with technical assistance from the Amref MEAL team, assure data quality in project implementation plans.
  • Create/ prepare essential project documentation for uploading to AIMS.

 

Learning and sharing.

  • To share your M&E process learnings with the rest of the team.
  • The project manager and the Amref MEAL team provided direction and technical help.
  • Help partners improve the project’s learning and sharing procedures.
  • Encourage a culture of two-way learning throughout the project.
  • To disseminate best practices among the larger community.

 

Contributing to the project’s effectiveness.

  • Collaboration with other projects can help to improve program integration and cross-learning.
  • Be proactively participate in numerous team activities.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to take on any additional work assigned by the line manager.

 

 

THE MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS:

A first-level university degree in statistics, demography, public policy, international development, business administration, economics, or a related discipline. An advanced qualification in management and evaluation, statistics, or economics is preferred.
