Overview
Job Title: Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator
Work location: Butiama District, Musoma, Mara
Global Resource Alliance
The Global Resource Alliance – Tanzania (GRA-Tz) is an international non-profit organization headquartered in Musoma, Tanzania. It is linked with the US non-profit Global Resource Alliance (GRA). GRA-Tz works to address poverty, malnutrition, disease, and environmental degradation in Tanzania’s Mara Region through natural, comprehensive, and sustainable solutions. Our activities are expanding, and we are searching for a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) coordinator to join our Tanzanian team to supervise data collecting and analysis for an upcoming multi-year forest landscape restoration project in Butiama District.
The Tanzanian Forestry Program
Since 2011, GRA-Tz has worked with the Belgian NGO WeForest to distribute approximately 2 million trees to government schools and local communities in the Mara Region. To this goal, it manages two tree nurseries, one in Butiama and one in Utegi, which produce over 800,000 seedlings each year.
GRA-Tz, in collaboration with WeForest, intends to launch a four-plus-four-year effort (two stages) named ‘the Butiama Hillside Forest Restoration Project, re-greening the surrounding terrain starting’ in 2023. The group promotes Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) best practices, sparking a movement, and encouraging local communities and authorities to act responsibly.
The forest restoration project aims to reforest the hillsides of Mwikoro, Kigori, Busegwe, and Singu villages in Butiama District, as well as increase the number of trees in the overall landscape. For the first four years, the intervention will cover 1,921 ha of hillsides, with 1,475 ha falling within the limits of Mwikoro, Kigori, Busegwe, and Singu communities. Forest restoration will be done via supported natural regeneration and the installation of woodlots and agroforestry systems to improve the livelihoods of the local inhabitants. The program will also include the establishment of legally recognized community forests on slopes, as well as improvements to water catchment to aid in the restoration of dried up springs.
GRA-Tz executes the project by managing tree nurseries, agroforestry, project coordination, community forest management of hillsides, and monitoring. WeForest is the project’s principal donor, providing direction and technical assistance for project interventions.
