Pact

The Pact is an international nonprofit organization that works in nearly 40 countries to create evidence-based, data-driven human development solutions that are owned by the communities we serve. Pact, founded in 1971, collaborates with partners to increase resilience, promote accountability, and strengthen knowledge and skills to achieve long-term social impact.

The Department:

Responsible Mining Practice is a joint endeavor between Pact’s Livelihoods program and its Responsible Mining Practice. While this study focused on mining communities, prior mining experience is not essential for this role. The ideal candidate would have relevant experience in child protection or forced labour. Pact’s responsible mining approach enables mineral-dependent communities to reap long-term advantages from the more sustainable exploitation of the natural resources that surround them. Pact approaches mining work holistically, linking it to livelihoods, governance, child protection, health, the environment, and the improvement of local, regional, and national institutions. The responsible mining practice is currently active in ten countries, working with mines of all sizes, from large-scale industrial operations (LSMs) to individual Artisanal and Small-scale Miners (ASMs) and their communities in isolated locations.
