Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Associate
Job location: Muramvya – Burundi (On-Site)

Answers to (Reporting to): Deputy Director of Global Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.

DRS is searching for a qualified field research specialist or regional Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Associate to join the NGO team in Muramvya, Burundi, on behalf of our client, an international NGO. The information gathered will be used by the MEL Associate to enhance NGO operations, train your deputy, and plan Monitoring and Evaluation initiatives among various groups and initiatives. By collaborating with the management team and the country team in Burundi, the MEL Associate will contribute to the long-term strategy decision-making process of the NGO.
The Director of Impact in Burundi and the Deputy Director of Global Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) will oversee the MEL Associate. Operating as an internal research department, the MEL department at NGO uses its findings mainly to monitor program impact rigorously and to influence program decision-making.
Principal Tasks and Accountabilities:
- Create surveys and test the instruments in the field.
- Be creative when gathering data and presenting findings that are useful.
- Write reports with suggested actions after conducting data analysis to reach preliminary and conclusive findings.
- Assist field teams from various departments in comprehending and implementing MEL findings.
- Oversees the local MEL team, which supports a group of more than 30 full-time surveyors and consists of a data analyst and coordinator for field activities.
- Lead staff members during meetings, career reviews, training sessions, and field visits.
- Oversees the primary MEL operations in the field in an effort to meet “perfect” quality requirements.
- Keep an eye on the administration and caliber of the data gathering procedure.
- Oversee the department’s hiring and training practices.
- Work with the management and program team to define the organizational plan based on MEL outcomes.
Job Qualifications:
- A university degree in a relevant discipline, such as public policy, international development, statistics, agronomy, or economics.
- Three or more years of expertise, either professionally or academically, in the areas of MEL or field data collecting, evaluation, study design and implementation, and result analysis.
- Quantitative abilities and familiarity with statistical analysis programs (Stata, R, for example).
logical and organized thinking abilities together with an engaging writing style in writing. - Expertise in building the capacity of employees.
- Coordination and organizing abilities.
- A track record of leadership in the workplace and a passion for education and development.
- Knowledge of the following languages is required: Kirundi (recommended), French, and English.
