Our shows Ubongo Kids and Akili and Me are being broadcast in 23 African nations in Swahili, English, French, Kinyarwanda, Kikuyu, Luo, Yoruba, Hausa, Chichewa, and Juba Arabic. We also reach out to families across Africa and beyond through digital products like apps, ebooks, music albums, and our eight YouTube channels.
The Job Purpose:
The objective of a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer is to ensure that programs, projects, and initiatives are properly designed, implemented, and evaluated in order to achieve the desired goals and impact. The function is crucial in providing systematic and objective assessments of how effectively these efforts are working and where they might be improved.
The Expected Key Achievement:
MEL Officer at Ubongo is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s educational initiatives are effective, efficient, and constantly enhanced based on evidence and learning. The primary goal of a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Officer at Ubongo would be to demonstrate the major influence and efficacy of the organization’s educational programs and material. This requires successfully completing certain particular tasks:
THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitoring: Working (in collaboration) with the Ubongo MEL Manager:
- Regularly gather data on program activities, outputs, and results.
- To monitor program implementation against predetermined goals.
- To identify early warning indications and suggest corrective measures.
- To create surveys, quizzes, and other data-collection tools.
- To oversee or carry out data collection operations such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and observations.
- To analyze both quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate program performance and outcomes.
The Impact Evaluation:
- Encourage periodic evaluations (baseline, midterm, and end-line) to measure program impact.
- To collaborate with external evaluators as needed.
- Create assessment frameworks and reports to help guide program improvements.
Learning:
- To promote a learning culture at Ubongo.
- To facilitate reflection sessions, learning activities, and information exchange.
- To document your lessons learned and best practices.
Reporting:
- Create detailed reports and presentations that summarize findings, observations, and suggestions.
- To capture lessons learned and best practices to help guide future programs and tactics.
- To support the packaging and dissemination of findings for internal and external use.
The Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work collaboratively with the user research team, program managers, content authors, and other stakeholders to ensure MEL activities are aligned and implemented effectively.
- To coordinate with external partners, donors, and stakeholders to disseminate findings and incorporate input.
- Develop a culture of continual learning and improvement inside the organization.
THE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, experience, and qualifications are essential.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related discipline (for example, education, media, social sciences, statistics, or international development).
- At least three years of MEL experience. Certification in results-based management (RBM) is preferred.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, statistical analysis (e.g., SPSS, Stata), and collaboration with external research institutions.
- Experience with educational research and evaluation methodologies.
- Experience with education and/or media research/MEL is preferred.
Strong analytical skills. - Expertise with data management technologies (such as Excel and databases).
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to collaborate with varied teams.
- Curious, adaptive, and dedicated to learning and growth.
